Just a tad. ;) My English classes have been forcing me to be more exact in how I write things. It's a good discipline. (Age long, indeed.)

Just because you cut down on the extra flowers doesn't mean that it doesn't need to be pretty. After all, that can even be seen with your precious Roman architecture. ;) The beauty can be in the make of the piece, in the choice of the correct word in the correct place -- just like the correct angle or stone or shape made something that would have been simply functional into something beautiful. And I know that your passion isn't necessarily for writing, but learning how to write well will help you in multiple areas over time.
