This is my first Dreamwidth post. I'm not sure whether I'm going to end up mostly posting on here, since I can automatically cross-post to LJ, or whether I'll stay mostly on LJ and repost some of my LJ posts here. It might change over time as both sites evolve

so what's the deal with dreamwidth? i know it is more customizable for layouts etc. but what about communities and overall busyness and liveliness? any cool features? so, are you able to give other a code now? may i have one if you are in a position to give them away? if not, that's okay. i like LJ. i would like to find a place where there were a bit more people over 25 though.

It's really REALLY new, but I think it's probably going to pick up steam quickly, judging by the amount of hype I've seen on LJ. I just requested a code for you--they're controlling the rate at which codes are granted so that they can make sure they have enough money to pay for all the bandwidth they'll be using. (You don't need a code for a paid account.) You control who has access to your journal and whose journals you subscribe to separately, which is nice. And so far, Dreamwidth looks promising in terms of not having the kinds of management problems LJ's had in the past few years.

oh thank you! i really appreciate it. i'll definitely sign-up if the code comes through. always like to be in on the trends when they pop up... before too much gets put into paid features.

Hmm. i suppose i might eventually want in on this. You weren't around for the mass emigration from opendiary to livejournal, but it went basically like this. i remember getting a livejournal pretty much as soon as they went code-free, and that being a pretty good choice.

i'll be sad to see lj go the way of od, but so it goes, i guess.

Yeah, I'll be sad if LJ goes that way, too. But I can see why there's demand for something like Dreamwidth, given the maturing of the blogosphere and the problems there have been with LJ. I will stay on LJ for the forseeable future, since I have it set up to automatically cross-post here whenever I post something at Dreamwidth. And I'm definitely going to be hanging around here for a while regardless of that, because of all my friendships and communities here.

i'm a "blurty" to livejournal transplant. man did blurty ever die a hard death when they couldn't keep up with their user requirements for bandwidth.

Thanks, added you. I changed the colours around on mine, but I think I'm going to change them again. I wish I knew enough CSS to make more substantive changes.
