It looks so star with the fire. I can’t wait for the vegetation to come back. It’s cool that you could see the sign though, and I understand counting the hours until you can be back up there.
Yep, it's really tough to see the forest in this state ... it honestly breaks my heart. But I know that in the bigger scheme of things, this is just a brief change, and in a few years everything will start to turn green again. The forest will be as lovely as ever once again!
Delightful pictures, and if you can still lug a heavy pack up a mountain for three solid hours, I wouldn't describe you as "out of shape," Enjoy your summer, my friend!
And of course, "out of shape" is a relative term. I know that most people my age don't do a lot more than sit in a recliner with a bag of Doritos and a TV remote, but of course in this little corner of the world there are also plenty of middle-aged people who are way tougher than I am. Something to aspire to!
It's always so stark after a fire's been through. After the fires in 1998, I can remember driving through areas where the only things left standing were the slash pines. Everything else was blackened to the ground.
Yep, the fire is a depressing thing ... but I know it's the way of the world. And I can take heart in the fact that things will start to get greener again in a ywar or two, and the hike won't be quite so bleak ...
