KING KONG

I saw

God, it was sad. I was sitting with my two girlfriends who both cried. If anyone was a beast in the movie, it was Jack Black's character. When they had the stampede I was rooting for him to be stomped on. Actually I was rooting for his death anytime anything got dangerous. It IS true, cockroaches do bloody survive. Seventeen other people died and somehow HE lived?
It was a good movie showcasing the cruelty of humanity (and how we are all worthless and should be wiped off the face of the earth:P). I must admit, tears welled up in my eyes a lot starting with the part where they showed Kong on stage. It was such a farce, such a mockery, and so damn cruel to do that to an animal. And humans are monstrous for actually *enjoying* such cruelty. I really felt horrible for Kong.
I haven't seen any other King Kong movies or read the book, so I was wondering how they have a relationship between a screaming woman and a huge ape, but they did it, and it was really lovely. I was laughing when she danced the Egyptian for him and it was nice how he liked to live where he could see the sunset. Although really that led to his death when he sought out the Empire State Building for the sunset. And I loved the scene in Central Park where he slid around and played, rather like a large pet. And he remembered "beautiful" which I thought was a bit much, but oh well. That was very sweet how he tried to save her at the end. It's sad how his whole family is dead yet there are loads of ugly, great dinosaurs.
Also, what's with the bats attacking him? It seemed more like a plot contrivance, since he apparently lives right next to their home, as neighbors, wouldn't they just have ignored each other? I don't know, maybe I don't know much about animals.
The dinosaurs and all the really icky beasts were very scary. God, the insects, DISGUSTING! I think I was more scared when they came out than any other moment frankly.
The acting was really good as well. I thought Naomi Watts was great considering Kong is CGI, but everyone else did their parts very well as well. King Kong was amazing. The special effects were fantastic, and he seemed so real, especially his eyes and his face conveyed so much emotion.

I did think though that Ann Darrow shouldn't have taken so long to figure out if she wanted to run back to the boat. Did she really think she could live on that Godforsaken island with King Kong to protect her and play with her forever? What would she eat? And Kong is an animal, he could accidentally kill her, or get bored with her and dash her against the walls. That was really sad though when he was passing out and stretched out his hand for her to climb onto.
I didn't think the Captain would suddenly become heroic and try to rescue everyone. Sort of out of character really. And I could have done without that boy they found who never told them where he came from and his whole realization that not going on the island is not the same as cowardice. It was pretty pointless.

The moustaches drawn on the posters were funny. I wasn't bored for even an instant, the tension kept running and kept everything interesting. the squeamish factor didn't bother me that much either. I pretty much hate hate hate disgusting bugs but there was just so frickin' many dinosaurs and so many disgusting things happening at once I'd sort of just move on to the next and forget about the previous disgusting thing that happened. I just clutched at my friend M and kept saying "DISGUSTING!" over and over and twas all fine and forgotten later.
The imagery was very cool too, Adrien Brody writing away in his animal cage, that first glimpse of the island, the scary native child (what was she stretching her hand out for? Is that just how natives stand around casually? Is it a sign to keep back?), and how at first they showed Kong only in glimpses of motion and snatches of fur (SO MUCH BETTER than seeing him all at once).

My friends were wondering how they transported King Kong on such a tin can of a boat. My theory is they tied him to the boat and dragged him:P I don't see how else they could have done it.

I think there might be a difference between how boys and girls viewed this movie. We went with a bunch of people and all of the girls thought it was sad and cried and all of the boys thought "PHWOOOAR COOL GRAPHICS! The story was kinda booooring..." They have no soul! I don't even like sad movies OR monster movies and I really thought King Kong was a fantastic movie. I wouldn't watch it again though, too sad.

To sum up, the movie in short. Humans bad, should all be killed. Kong very sad.

I saw some trailers for other movies, and yay Ice Age 2! Hoodwinked looks good as well. And of course, I am eagerly awaiting Casanova.
