To be fair, by Moore's assessment one need not bother adapting any comic to the silver screen.
I'm not so sure the director of 300 would be my first choice, but I'll be happy if Watchmen focuses on remaining thought-provoking as a movie even at the expense of the subtler material. V for Vendetta's adaptation stomped all over Moore's ambiguities but I'm sure lead many towards the novel because it was complex in a film-friendly way.
I'd say it was a worthy addition, possibly even a decent counter-point, although Alan Moore would definitely disagree with me. The key is to treat them as two distinct works.

hm yes. treat them as different works. might work, will investigate when movie comes out.
