of course, there was an article in this mornings paper that explained that the Judy Garland version of Wizard of Oz was a remake of a 1925 version...but that may be the exception to the rule...they did say it has been done a couple of times since, but none have exceeded the glory of the Judy Garland version...so once they get it right, they should leave it be...
