But Baz's films are so shiny!

Plus. Harold Perrineau delivering the Queen Mab speech = unforgettable.

A little too shiny for me, I guess. And it always rankles me when people call the eternally filthy Shakespeare boring just because it's old.

I'll accept Mercutio, and offer in return Leonard Whiting's ass.

Hahaha, yes! That is definitely a selling point. We watched the Zeffirelli version in 8th grade English class, and the renowned ass shot had been edited out by our school librarian. So sad.

I don't care what anyone says. This is, in my mind, the best Romeo and Juliet ever; I've seen both films you referenced, and Zeffirelli is by far the greater artist. :D

Yessss. Yes yes. I was already on the nerd track, but this movie changed my 15-year-old life.

Naught wrong with the nerd track! I have been on it my whole life and it shows no signs of stopping now 8D I think I saw this (on TV, so expurgated) for the first time when I was about 8 or 9, and I was something of an enfant terrible who was already reading Shakespeare (not much, or well, but nonetheless). Probably would have done me good to see it for the first time at a later date!
