I feel utterly spoiled, because I got three (!) amazing gift fics, all in my current obsessive fandom. Next year, I'll make sure to write my treats before retail Christmas eats me so that I can pay some of this awesome forward. In the meantime:
The Raven Cycle
There are ten (ten!) fics in this fandom, which blows my mind. All of them are really good, from G to E, gen to orgies, mystical casefic to id-mashing h/c. I'm reccing my gift fics, but if you
look through the archive, you're bound to find something to your taste.
Like Young Volcanoes: E, Ronan Lynch/Joseph Kavinsky
"You're quicker than I thought," he says, backing into the stall.
"I'm not -"
"Whatever," Kavinsky cuts him off, and drags him in.
This should could have been a deleted scene from Dream Thieves. A great look at Henrietta after dark and what draws Ronan there, with some great nods to their canon interactions. If you were bitter about where their relationship went (or didn't), this is the perfect fix.
Here Lost Among Our Winnings: E, Ronan Lynch/Joseph Kavinsky
Ronan doesn't remember saying yes but he's pretty sure that he didn't say no, either; somehow, Kavinsky knows exactly what he needs.
This is basically just porn, but oh, what porn. It's filthy and morally questionable and psychologically disturbing and boiling hot--everything you'd expect from sex with Kavinsky.
Lonely Rivers Sigh: T, Blue Sargent/Noah Czerny/Richard Gansey III
"I could," Noah says.
"Could what?" Gansey asks.
"Be your Whoopi Goldberg. Your go between."
This is sweet and sad and understated and lovely. I want a million fics with this premise. It hits the intimacy and dreamy sensuousness of the canon relationships, so if you loved That Scene by the car, read this.
Black Books
Noble and Most Ancient: T, Bernard Black, Fran Katzenjammer, Manny Bianco
Bernard's past catches up with him - by owl post.
There can never be too many "Bernard Black of the House of Black" fics, and this one does not disappoint. The gang's reactions to wizard things are absolutely pitch perfect.
Maurice
Alec: M, Maurice Hall/Alec Scudder, Anne Durham/Clive Durham
Two relationships, more than a decade in.
I requested this fandom with the caveat that I'd rather not get something about WWI. This fic completely changed my mind. Alec is gruff and sardonic and loveable, and he plays wonderfully off cautious and devoted Maurice. The strength of their relationship is underscored by the tragedy of Anne and Clive's.
Much Ado About Nothing
Seek Not to Alter Me: G, Beatrice, Don John
It's the big school dance, and Beatrice is utterly fed up with everyone. Worst of all, the punch isn't even alcoholic. Modern AU, high school setting, because I have no idea why this isn't a teen movie yet.
It's wonderful when a tropey, cliched AU fic hits the characters better than a lot of canonverse stuff. Beatrice is delightfully bitchy as a teenager, and Don John works as the unpopular brother of the popular exchange student. All the characters are spot on, and I want all the interaction between these two.
Romeo and Juliet
Nothing But One of Your Nine Lives: T, Tybalt, Juliet
Tybalt has a secret.
This Tybalt is perfectly violent and nihilistic. I really liked the glimpses of his relationship with Juliet, and how she's a point of innocence and virtue in the unrelenting darkness of Tybalt's Verona.
Secret of Kells
As Long As There Are Dreams: unrated, Aisling, Original Characters
Aisling flits in and out of the lives of children throughout Irish history.
This is a great portrait of Ireland through the ages, as told by her children. Aisling is full of wonder and affection and energy, reaching out to new generations as she reached out to Brendan.
