So I just got back from Petco and talked to a very nice girl about snakes. I do have to be eighteen to buy anything there, but I can also have Mom come in and sign off for me

The good thing about a ball python is that they won't get so big that you have to worry about feeding them a ton. (ball pythons rarely get over 3-4 feet long). The rats we get for Fido are like $8 each, and she needs to be fed 2-4 a month. That really adds up. Kingsnakes are shy, not as good a pet as a python.
Just remember not to put wood chips or wood shavings in any snake's cage, it's very bad for them.
Fido is not wholly my snake. Since I moved to Beaverton, Mom's been taking care of her, and Jenn is still very much attatched to her.
I figure I'd save myself a whole bunch of drama and get one I can raise and fully call my own.
Money problems... if I budget right and abstain from getting anything that I don't absolutely need, I can manage. And if I can't, then I'll just be eating peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for a few weeks.
Just remember that there's more than just the cost of the snake. Cage, bedding, something for it to hide in (although I suppose you could use a small box) heat lamp, food...
