[...Okay, so today is very much one of those days. Or well, one of those days only a million times worse, because when sie looked out the window of the building sie was in, it was sunset. This not only mean sie had ruined hir sleep schedule (less important) but also that sie was probably missing some party at the local pub ( Read more... )

[Robert just... blinks at this transmission. The sky is... smiling?]

You would be... referring to the moon of Luceti then, by that?

[Who wouldn't recognize a moon... Wait.]

... Your planet lacks natural satellites then, I presume? Moons tend to be common, especially around inhabited planets, but I suppose it is not impossible for a planet to lack moons...

[This was fascinating, if not decidedly strange to hear.] Essentially, Cameron, what you are describing to me would be the subject of several different disciplines on my planet, caused by related-but-distinct events with physics, biology, geology and other planetary processes.

The fact that they are all linked in your world by these leylines is very intriguing. It makes me wonder exactly how these processes are driven, and how it compares to Terra's own processes of the sort... It is almost as if your planet's plate tectonics are tied into the existence of the leyline energy.

... Forming a knife? [That sounds like a violation of the laws of conservation of matter, but what exactly was a violation in a magical world? Less importantly it was summoning a dangerous weapon at will...] And that does not violate your world's physics, to form a knife from ostensibly a vacuum?

Your world seems very fascinating. I wonder what other parts of its physics are different...

You can't make something from nothing... Um. For example, I'd be forming the knife out of materials in the soil below me, but I don't witness any of the process. Scientists have only recently begun to study the specifics of magic, and like I said... it's not really my field, so I don't know a lot.

[Sie feels so... unhelpful here, but sie sheepishly laughs a bit]

I'm glad you find it interesting though, Professor.

Ah, that makes sense. So it does not violate physics directly, then... simply modifies the constituents of the knife depending on where it is you draw it from. I wonder if that means you could engineer certain kinds of knives depending on where you go to make them...

And it is not a problem. The information you can provide is most enlightening.

Is there anything that I can perhaps do for you, here, such as assist you with finding shelter or edibles or whatever else you might be in need of?

...Well, I've found my way to the bar, and once my nerves simmer I intend to head to the Welcome Center and maybe find an apartment. Rooms are all free and open in this village, according to the guide, correct? It was only midafternoon and despite everything I'm truly not that tired.

Yes, that is correct. The Community Buildings are like residential units and have many separate rooms... Essentially one walks in and claims whatever unclaimed room one wants, I'd imagine. Though my own particular apartment was the result of a friend's intervention on my behalf.

If you have read the guide already, then you know much of what I could tell you about this place... It is a rather difficult thing to adjust to at first, though. At least for someone like myself.

Oh no, Professor, I'm certain it's difficult for all those save those too carefree to fully process the situation. That's a group I almost would wish I were a member of at the moment.

I would think it was always better to be aware, regardless of how egregrious, rather than be ignorant. Though... I suppose this place could change one's opinion of that. It is indeed very shocking.

It was quite a pleasure speaking to you though, even if there is no other way I can assist you at present. Perhaps we can speak again at some point if there is anything you would require? I am most willing to offer my services as a scientist if they become necessary to you.

I'm sure sometime I will need those talents, Professor. And... even if I do not, simple conversation with another being can be enough to lift one's spirits. Keeping that in mind, I sincerely hope we do speak again.
