Name: Aveta Cameron (proper name Cameron alone; Aveta is the name of hir village)
Gender: N/A (biologically both; I will be use
this set of gender-neutral pronouns for hir)
Age: 21
Wing Color: Purple
Physical Appearance Cameron is an androgynous humanoid creature which stands tall enough to look like either a short guy or a tall girl depending on who you're asking - so somewhere in the area of 5'5, 5'6. The facial features are enough of a mix of both to appear as a boyish girl or a girly guy, again depending on who you're asking or what you're looking for. Sie is in hir twenties now, but due to the aging of hir species, could still easily pass for a teenager by the standards of other peoples or humans.
These are biological traits of hir species, because sie, like all members of hir people, has the biological components of both female and males as seen in most species (sans mammaries, hence hir flat chest: given how hir species feeds, breastfeeding would be redundant). What really sets hir apart, appearance wise, is the fact sie has dark purple hair, pink eyes, and a darker skintone. Aside from what's "under the hood" so to speak and the bizarre hair and eye color sie has, Cameron otherwise looks like a human.
Hir style of dress depends on the day and the mood sie's in, since interaction at university has made hir aware other species think in terms of genders sie had developed a tendency to dress as one or the other at different times. Prior to this sie was fond of button-up shirts and trousers, and these still make up a mainstay of hir clothing choices.

History: Cameron's life is a surprisingly normal life, all things considered. Born in the main village of hir people, hir childhood was the sort of peaceful affair that anyone of hir people might expect to have. Sie was the spawn of a merchant, and thus much of hir youth was spent tending to the shop and moving around need products as they shipped in from other parts of the world. Hir people were an isolated but close-knit community (a tribe from the eastern plains) that resided in only one decently sized village - the population of which rarely reached above three hundred or so at any given time. Though the tribe referred to itself as "the people of the eastern plains," the name of the village itself was Aveta, and thus for the purposes of trade and self-identification after others moved into the plains this name was used. But, as I said, sie was the spawn of a merchant, and worked the shop which had good come into it from other tribes beyond the plains. Basically, these shipments were perhaps hir only real glance to the world outside of the land that hir parents and grandparents had lived on.
Suffice to say, the idea of hat world captivated hir, and after sie began to come of age, hir intentions to leave to attend a higher education outside of the village were made clear to everyone in it. Traditionally, the people of the eastern plains were home-schooled by their parents or grandparents. Family (albeit not a nuclear family) were of utmost importance to them, and thus the village was structured in terms of family units: four large ones exist in Cameron's time, but all are heavily interwoven. Much of the village was hesitant at first to the face sie wanted to leave - Cameron would be the first of hir people to go off to a secondary schooling, after all! - but they had always been a warm people, and hir earnestness to see the world eventually won the majority of them over. Sie was sent out two years ago with proud, if tearful, goodbyes, supplies to make for the road, and their blessing.
This is probably a prudent time to mention though, that Cameron's world is in no way similar to our own. Now it's time for a quick lesson in Cameron's world!
First off: the planet does not have a generally accepted name. While various peoples from the planet call it different things, it is basically referred to as "the World" or some variation therefore of all the time. Part of the reason for this is that astronomy is a dud field for the people on this world (partially for reasons detailed below) and because of this the existence of other worlds are, at best, theoretical. They are certainly not thought of in the physical planetary existence that ours are thought of in.
Next, it is worth noting that there are dozens of dozens of species on this world, but the sentient ones (most of which look very close to humans within minor differences) do think of themselves as different species so much as different "tribes" or "clans" or things like that. As a rule of thumb, clans/tribes are relatively isolated from each other, and it's only in modern times, through the construction of major cities (which are multi-tribe or tribe-neutral for the most part), the assimilation of some peoples, and the onset of major universities like the one Cameron attends which have caused the various beings to come in consistently close contact with each other.
In reality, this cross-cultural exchange on a grand scale has only happened in the last hundred or so years and it is still by no means perfect. Even with the cities and the universities, most peoples prefer to stay in their traditional lands, and even those that leave them rarely leave regions. The regions of the world only have basic contact with each other: the equivalent of a telegraph is, after all, a very modern invention. Though the exchange of stories and to some extent data has been going on for decades, Cameron's world has only just started to enter an age in which true global affairs might exist.
There's plenty more to consider about it, settings wise, but any more than this really isn't that relevant to Cameron's personal history. You can read more on those details
here if you so please. Anyway, carrying on!
Off Cameron went to university, not sure what to expect out of the big, wide world, or even what sie really wanted to study. Fortunately, hir marks and hir testing ability saw hir into the school with almost no incident. It was one of the regional universities, and thus host to members of all sorts of tribes and clans in the area, or rather to specific members of them who wanted to get jobs that could be used to build the future, among other slogans. Here, in such a social setting, Cameron was both stigmatized and thrive all at once. Hir people are social creatures, and Cameron is no exception to this rule: sie made friends fast and sie excelled enough in hir classes to not make an issue of hir academic career either. However, as sie quickly discovered, the vast majority of other peoples are not built like and do not think the same way that the people of Aveta do.
Hir first year at university, therefore, was marked with many social faux pas and many other misunderstandings. Hir dorm was never sure where to put hir (due to the lack of gender) and numerous roommate transfer requests resulted in hir being moved around quite a bit for the first few months until sie was finally put in a single. This, of course, prevented hir from having much in the way of a stable meal source, and it was around this time sie discovered the bar scene. Hir "normal" behavior inherited from hir people (touching people while in casual conversation, a kiss as a greeting, different standards of personal space, and so on) resulted in hir getting an unmerited reputation for being promiscuous, and thus the attention of boys and girls (depending on which gender they subscribed to assuming sie was) trying to either pick hir up or avoid hir. The trouble would follow hir much of the year, though die personally was mostly oblivious to this for most of the first year, absorbed was sie in simply trying to understand other peoples.
This changed in the summer of hir first year, before the second. While sie has had a few dates in the course of hir first year, it was not until that summer that sie found someone sie was truly interested in pursuing an actual relationship with. This boy was named Jackson, and he was an upperclassman from a tribe in the northern mountains nearer to the coastline. Cameron's pursuits were defeated almost as soon as sie got in the game because, as Jackson (to his credit politely) clarified, he was not "gay" and attracted to Cameron, whom he knew as a boy. This incident brought home to Cameron how much this "gender" concept mattered to other peoples, beyond simply the biological sex (which sie had come to understand during the course of hir first year).
Now realizing that in terms of fitting in sie was something of a parish (and more than ready to move out of the dorms, which has been a horrid experience for hir all things considered), through Jackson (whom sie gradually became good friends with) sie met hir future and now current roommate: another member of the northern mountain tribe named Cecil. Cecil, who was something of a progressive, made an arrangement with Cameron in which he could be hir breakfast in the morning (through a kiss) if Cameron would cover all of the food expenses for their apartment. This agreement (and more so the sense of belonging it began to give hir) was something sie jumped all over into hir second year at the University.
The second year past with its own set of lessons and incidents, albeit nothing so notable as before. Now a sophomore and growing more and more used to interacting with beings outside of hir people, Cameron began to find hir own place in the society of the university. Sie found hir own group of friends whom sie (at least tried to) spread an understanding of hir gender (or lack therefore of) to, and furthermore decided on a major (cross-cultural studies, inspired largely out of hir own experiences) and grown more comfortable in dealing with everyone on campus. Even most of the regulars at the bar sie frequents have, by now, grown used to the fact that sie does not eat solid foods and looks very babyfaced, and similarly sie has compromised into being less touchy-feely than sie was prior to the start of second year.
At the point sie is being apped from, hir third year has only barely started, and things are keeping much the same as they were the previous year, with minor exceptions. Cecil has a new boyfriend, so Cameron's been seeing him somewhat less than usual (albeit they still have their breakfast ritual) and sie personally have been considering signing on for a study abroad program for a university in the far north. But, all in all, it has been an average life for Aveta Cameron. Until being pulled to Luceti, that is.
Personality: Aveta Cameron is a sweet and caring, if somewhat nosy, person at heart. Sie is not quite an academic, but sie does like to learn and is very interested in a greater understanding of both the world around hir and the people that inhabit it. If one were to ask why sie left hir tribe to go to university, hir answer would most often amount to saying it was wonderlust. Sie is a people person, and while sie was arguably most comfortable while with hir own people, since broadening hir world to include other cultures, it is doubtful sie will ever go back to that sleepy and isolated community for anywhere longer than a short visit. Even if sie does write often, now by hir third year of university, despite loving hir family dearly, sie only rarely visits back.
This is not to say that sie has a perfect understanding of others, albeit not for lack of trying. Certain concepts that most beings take for granted are completely alien to hir: the idea of meals at designated times of the day (though sie has since adopted "breakfast" with hir roommate), the idea of gender as a whole 9let alone gender roles or sexual orientation), and monogamous marriage, among other things. It is these concepts, along with others such as racial standards for individual tribes or ideas of personal space, sie has failed to completely internalize. However, these same ideas sie has trouble with fascinate hir, and in hir opinion make the world that much broader and that much more interesting.
Basically, at the peak of hir youth and the in the earliest stage of adulthood, Cameron is in the position that many people find themselves in at university: sie is finding hirself and finding out about the world, and just now deciding for hirself where sie fits into that world. Sie likes to party and socialize, but also likes to learn about other people and their "stories" both as an individual and a culture. Sie can flirt and chat and all sorts of other things, and has in the last few years grown very comfortable in hir own skin, regardless of how different sie is from other peoples. While the world originally shocked hir with its vastness, far from shunning that world, sie decided to embrace it, and now is doing hir best to become a valid part of it.
Because this is worth its own section: yes, Cameron is very aware that hir "gender" (or lack therefore of) as well as hir sexual makeup can make people anywhere from perplexed to uncomfortable. With it, as with most things, sie is remarkably forthright and honest, perfectly willing to explain it to anyone who specifically asks hir for an explanation. However, during hir time at University, sie has also learned the value of just not explaining it and allowing those who do not know hir particularly well to make their own conclusions. Sie is content to leave it at that until either the other party asks, or sie comes to consider the other party one of hir closer friends, at which point if sie hasn't already explained it, sie then will. Furthermore, since Jackson back in the summer before second year, sie has taken to preemptively explaining it to any potential dates. But for the most part, sie lets people form their own opinions - sie's even taken to having a bit of fun with abusing "conventional" dress styles for either gender and mixing them up depending on hir mood that day in part to tease people.
One final trait worth noting, is that while Cameron is very often polite and an excellent conversationalist while sie feels comfortable, at times when sie is uncomfortable, sie is just a normal college student (albeit from an abnormal world), and thus will react much as you would extent a normal person to react to a situation outside of their norms or expectations: surprise, and more than a little panic if its necessary. Basically, sie is not a superperson, just a normal person getting by in the world and finding hir own.
...This personality feels somewhat lame, but most everything else is covered in one of the other sections.
Strengths::
• Physically, Cameron isn't in bad shape, albeit only at the level one might expect out of an average college student. Depending on who you ask, how relatively cute sie is (as either of a "boy" or "girl") is a selling point here as well. In terms of magical ability, Cameron only has a minor affinity for basic, practical spells one might pick up in a 101 class or from the elder of hir village growing up- things like making a small beam of light to see better in the dark, a charm to give hir extra luck (though the validity of this is dubious; it's an "old tribal spell"), or an ability to conjure up a small household item like a kitchen knife or a lighter if needed. Also, if it's counted here, hir species physically ages slower than humans so despite being twenty-one sie could still easily pass for sixteen.
• Mentally, it might go too far to call Cameron an academic, but sie does have a keen interest in learning all that sie can learn. Quick-witted and a forward thinker to begin with, this is expanded upon by hir willingness to pick up skills from other people or to be corrected when sie is doing something incorrectly. Sie's by no means a brainiac (sie has almost no mind for sciences or magic), but sie does pick up on most facts or skills well enough, given the time and energy.
• Emotionally, Cameron is a compassionate and understanding person who, while not always perfect at it, does sincerely seek to sympathize with other peoples plights. Sie's sweet and caring, and very open to helping people out whenever possible; raised with strong family and community values sie will most often seek a solution in which the most people possible can be happy. Aside from this, sie is relatively stable hirself emotionally, good at keeping hir cool and expressing what it is sie wants most of the time. Despite this, sie is very polite when sie knows how to be in hir quest to be respectful.
Weaknesses:
• Physically, despite being from a world of myth and magic, Cameron's people are not particularly strong or quick or anything, and are more or less at the level of humans in terms of physical ability. While sie does know some basic spells, sie is also not particularly gifted at magic (nor does sie care to be) and thus has no efficient way of defending hirself when it comes to a life-or-death situation. Basically, sie's a non-combatant. Aside from this, hir unique diet means that sie literally needs to depend on other people for survival (though it is not a dire thing, merely that sie cannot live in isolated). What's more, because magic in hir world is dependent on the leylines, sie will need to use Spheres in order to use it in Luceti.
• Mentally, while a decent student, hir people were isolated and most of what sie knows about the outside world is because of hir time at university. Thus, sir does not have much in the way of real-world experience and might come off as a country bumpkin by the standards of some more urban people. Sie is not ill-experienced or dumb per se, merely that sie simply ignorant of cultures outside of hir own on any detailed level, or bits of technology not in use at home or at university (which will be much of Luceti's household appliances).
• Emotionally, the stance Cameron's people has towards intimacy in general is shocking to many other peoples, and while sie is objectively aware of it, sie often forgets the emotional side of it until after the fact and thus can say things others might find overly forward or offensive if sie is otherwise too stressed to think hir words through. (such as asking someone sie doesn't know particularly well for a kiss to get through the day if sie feels particularly hungry).
