Is sex seriously that big of a deal? It seems that Americans have made this a top priority in topic and in life style. It is talked about almost everywhere you go from classes to work. Is it just the people I associate myself with or is everyone really always have this topic on their minds? For awhile I started to think I have slept with too many ( Read more... )

I think there has always been this obsessed notion about sex. We are bombard with sexual images and advertisement all the time. But I really don’t think it’s all that different from other societies. There does come a point and time where it doesn’t become that big of deal. It’s really about finding someone who’s on your level of maturity. I do agree that rules to dating have changed. Most seem interested in just hooking up and not really taking the time to get to know and date someone anymore. I think some of other things you mention can be contributed to your generation (Generation Me). The idea its always about me, we all above average, lack of patience and so on…plus technology seems to fuel the increase in narcissism. My Space encourages attention seeking, as does YouTube. This all just my opinion not fact just some things I’ve observed.

Well, can't say I know too much about the topic myself, but I book I'm reading tried to explain it. The basic summery was that some people run after sex because they want to be valued by the people that they have sex with in order to feel valueable themselves - in those instances they pick anyone willing to have sex and try to dilude themselves into believing that those are good virtuous people. The other type does have self-worth and they can only be attracted to someone who they believe worthy of themselves. For them it is more a sharing of that worth or something.
Can't say I know if this is true or not but the premise is interesting...
