SHEER BRILLIANCE!

Okay, so, my friend got busted at his school for having a party..which happened to be a themed Harry Potter party. As punishment he had to write an essay. Brilliance ensued...

Wagner College, a diverse tapestry of dreams and hopes - a virtual kaleidoscope of culture and diversity. To uphold a fair and structured institute, rules must be put in place to keep people from destroying the fair balance of our community, a mere reflection of life outside of our own little campus. As such, the rules must reflect those that are upheld nationally and locally - including but not limited to drinking laws, which allow those beyond the age of 21 to partake in alcohol consumption only. Now as much as I disagree with this law (if someone is old enough to fight for their country and consent as an adult, then surely they are old enough to have a drink) it is still a law that citizens must abide. As far as noise complaints go, a rule which keeps Wagner’s dorms under control so that we can all respect each other’s spaces, I more than appreciate the usefulness of this law, especially in a studious building such as Guild. Even weekends are not exempt from too much noise which pollutes our ears!
The night of November 18, a momentous occasion was occurring - the release of the fourth Harry Potter movie in national theatres. This was a big year for the series, as the sixth book in the seven book series had come out that July. Fans, such as myself, eagerly awaited the coming of this cinematic masterpiece, and it was necessary for celebration to occur! On the night of November 19, our humble suite was transformed for one magically night, into Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardy. If one looked closely enough, you could see the house elves scampering, readily preparing the night’s feasts and owls soaring, delivering the invitations. As the night progressed, wizards from all over Wagner flew in; ready to discuss the films brilliance (it was really that good). The clamor that arose from this celebration, indeed, became a little too unruly and at times, gratuitously joyous. Indeed, this was not a book reading, as can be seen with other Harry Potter celebrations. No, this became reminiscent of a “party”. As my efforts dwindled in control, I sat by hoping I was not waking up the people who had Saturday morning classes. To make matters worse, it seems there was an instance of polyjuice potion and butterbeer that had been circulating among the joyous wizards.
Now it is not a secret that what had been happening was against the rules. Of course, I cannot justify the actions of people in my residency. Underage drinking is illegal, regardless of where it is in America, my suite is not excluded from that rule. Also, noise pollution is pollution and no pollution is good for anything! The noise policy is in place so that we have an atmosphere that promotes learning, not a gathering for loud wizards and howlers. My intention was never to break this spirit, but to promote it by opening the world of literature to some who don’t even know what Harry Potter is about. After all, it is a craze that has brought millions of children, young adults, and adults back to books and learning. Music and loud noise is distracting and unbefitting to the very essence of Guild Hall and, if it were up to me, we would all sit down quietly and read a good book! However, we don’t live in a library and people will be loud, music will blare, and noises will be heard which is why a noise policy must be in put in place

So, though I have tried to bring about a world of knowledge and education, much like the goals of Wagner College, the policies were broken and rules were not abided by. In the real world, a paper would not simply be assigned but there would probably be an arrest or two! Plus, being a policy breaker in the wizarding world is a one-way ticket to Azkaban and, lord knows I don’t want to go there!
