Arthur wasn't dead. He wasn't. Not the important part of him; not his soul, his aura, his essence, or whatever it was.
He was waiting in Avalon, Merlin knew. His Once and Future King, drifting through the fey world, waiting to return to bring in the end of time.
Merlin, however, didn't plan on waiting for him. Destiny said he'd need Merlin to complete his task, but it didn't say he had to wait for his lover alone. To only see him again just before their ends.
So he'd wait with Arthur. In Avalon. Content to be with his King.
