Racism... boo.

Just discovered this guy- a racist jerk, pretending to back his racism with ridiculous "science." He and his readers nauseate me with their blatant racism.

A comment worthy of mention on Stuff White People Do under the heading "blame black people for perpetuating racism":
"I’m saying that in the bible GOD says that we should forgive and forget, no ( Read more... )

The first one blames black people for the continuation of racism: "if only Black people stopped complaining/teaching their kids to expect racism, it would go away." This is blatantly untrue and is in fact racist.

The second one includes the popular "I have a Black/Asian/Hispanic/biracial best friend/nanny/cousin" and the popular following statement "I don't see colour." While less obviously racist, a white person saying this sort of thing usually follows it with a racist statement, or is saying they are not racist in a minimizing and often racist way.

Well, I disagree...

They admit there is more to racism, but that doesn't make the premise of that next statement not racist. It states that Black people teaching their kids to expect racism is the cause of racism- it's not.

And the second one is definitely problematic. Many people who claim they are not racist will use "the Black best friend, etc." as a shield. If anyone says "Hey, that one thing you said was pretty racist, they can point to this and say "nuh uh, I have a Black best friend, so I can't be racist." A lot of people who say they do not see colour just do not always recognize that others' race/colour does cause unconscious reactions in them. They see colour unconsciously and react accordingly.

While a world where people do not see colour might be great (although, I kind of have doubts based on this) we are definitely not there yet. The phrases used by this well-meaning person are racist, even if that person is not racist themself. It is a subtle and insidious form of racism, and a lot of people practising it don't ( ... )

>> I bet y'all are tired of listening to me rant about race, right?

Not nearly as much as you must be tired of having to deal with it, am I correct?

Please say on. I don't promise to always agree, but I find your viewpoints interesting and look forward to many more rants.
