Ooh, nice list! I haven't seen any of these, and clearly I need to.
Do you think someone who really, really disliked Never Let Me Go the novel because they thought the basic premise hadn't been thought through would still like the movie?
Oooh. That's tough to say!! It's been a few years since I read the novel. The film is a really true adaptation when it comes to tone and character, I think, and the general plot is basically the same. I think if you hated the premise in the novel, that likely won't change much in the film - the same basic story is still there, and I'm not sure it's given all that much more thought here. I will say, though, that the acting from the three leads is fantastic - maybe the characters would click more with you in a visual medium like this rather than the novel? I'm honestly not sure, though, and I wouldn't want to steer you towards the film with guarantees that don't pan out!
There are definitely some great films listed up above, though - maybe one of the other ones will be more to your liking. :D
Hmm...okay. I did like some things about the novel! But the seeming lack of thought given to the premise kind of ruined it for me. So maybe I'll skip the movie. Thank you!
There are definitely other movies on this list that sound intriguing!
I watched 'People like us' last night. It was beautiful. I love the changes in the characters throughout the movie and I cried at the end. Thanks for recommending it. Here's a recommendation of my own: http://linvro21.livejournal.com/22648.html
Oh, I'm so glad you liked it!!! That makes me really happy. :D And thank you so much for that rec! That looks really sweet, and it's not anything I would have even heard of before without the rec. I'm writing that down so I can watch it over my Christmas holidays, thank you!
this wasn't my wish but i was super curious, and some of these sound like movies i would like! 50/50 was so good and so heartbreaking and the single reason i actually like seth rogen. i loved his character - you think he's kind of a dick and kind of insensitive and not actually taking adam's feelings into consideration, and then you learn what kind of guy he really is. and i loved the scene where they shave adam's head. they did it in one take. O.O and anna kendrick, i love her. she's fabulous.
i saw the way way back twice - once in a theater and once on a plane - and it wasn't the movie i was expecting but i mean that in a good way. it's a really lovely movie, and if anyone is reading this and needs another rec, let me rec it. steve carrell plays a horrible person and some of it is kind of hard to watch - if you have an embarrassment squick it's probably not the movie for you - but it's just really good and heartfelt and honest and sam rockwell is wonderful. and maya rudolph is always worth watching.
Just finished watching Liberal Arts after a crappy day. It made me appreciate my life a bit more :) I love the colors in this movie. And the realization what impact we can have on each other. It was good. Thanks.
I WAIL ALL THE TIME ABOUT PEOPLE LIKE US and the way way back, like seriously, that movie made me start properly writing my own screenplay, and I can't really explain why it had such a drastic effect on me, but it did.
Did I tell you about the time Kitty and I thought it would be A GREAT IDEA to go see 50/50 on a date night? We were crying like the entire time lmao. Same with Never Let Me Go, so as you can see Kitty and I had great dates :P
I'm making a note to see if I can find the rest of these movies - I doubt redbox will have any of them - but I'll try Netflix for some of these because a) I trust your movie recs and b) man oh man do I want to see a lot of these. If you know where I can watch them with subtitles, I'm so down. :D
