GAHHHH this was so heartbreaking and beautiful. And poor Cook and Archie :(

The ending slays me. In a good way, of course!

P.S. It's awesome to see you writing again :)

I really enjoyed this.. and I kind of like not knowing whether David is leaving his wife for good, or just going to comfort Cook.
The whole story is really heartbreaking.. Cook having to live without Archie for ten years, and Archie living a lie this whole time. This paragraph really got to me:

"Sarah's voice was almost grating, though through no fault of her own. Without even knowing it she was being disruptive, her continuous needling more irritating than usual. He glanced in her direction, silent as his fingers tightened around his phone. His brain was suddenly bombarding him with thoughts; the kinds of thoughts he hadn't even dreamed of in years. Crazy, impulsive thoughts that were so out of his character that they would shock anyone he knew these days. But once upon a time -- once he'd not only had those thoughts, but acted on them too, and that was all due to the influence of one David Roland Cook."

I could really feel the Davids' pain. Great job on this!

Oh wow, thank you so much! I'm glad it effected you in the way I intended. I'll keep it a mystery if Archie leaves his wife or not, but just know that at the least he's there for the best friend he ever had. ♥

Doll, that song makes me cry too <3. I love me some Jon Bon: "I'll be there for you 'Til Kingdom come - so lovely. As is this.

SO GLAD to see you around these parts again, you don't even know! <3

No words. Just - no, seriously.

You used Blood and Fire and then you had to go and use one of the most amazing songs Bon Jovi ever wrote - Blood on Blood. Have I ever told you that Blood on Blood is my friends' song? It's the tune I reserve for them, and whenever we're going through a particularly rough time, I sing those lines you quoted back to them through the phone. My singing voice is atrocious, but it never fails to make them believe in me.

This said, Bobbie, I just have no words. I could feel Cook's pain, his desperation and his sense of loss. And then, there's ten years later and Adam's gone and I - for as much angst as I like to write and read, I have a weakness with Adam's death. It just gets to me. And you've written their relationship so perfectly, how, no matter how much time passes or how much water is under this bridge of life, Archie will always be there for Cook.

It feels so good to see you writing again, am I selfish for wanting you to post more?

Oh gosh, I'm glad it effected you so. I mean, in a good understanding type way, of course. Yes, that song just makes me stop breathing every time I hear it -- it's definitely probably the best friendship song ever written.

Thanks so much for you compliments, they make my heart all squishy! Yes, the boys will always be there for one another, no matter what.

LOL, well, I don't know if it's selfish or not, but it's definitely inspiring! :D

Oh my goooooooooooooood.
You basically shattered my heart, darling. But the ending, as sad as it was, left me with a glimmer of hope.

Thank you, so much, for writing and for sharing.

Thank you for reading and commenting! (Such lovely comments too!) I like leaving a little hope at the end, of course. Sorry it was a bit sad, but don't worry! Archie's gonna go comfort Cook now and things will be not quite so bad. :D
