How you respond to the Tower's change makes all the difference in how uncomfortable the experience will be. Recognize that the disruption occurred because it was needed. Perhaps embracing the change is too much to ask, but try to find the positive in it. In fact, you may feel tremendous release that you have finally been forced in a new direction. ( Read more... )

Hah! I had the same thing happen to me last year. A 25-pound bag of rice was too much for the shelves in the pantry, and it took three of them down on its way to the floor. I wound up clearing out everything, patching and repainting the wall, then reinstalling the shelves with far more durable hardware. I even painted it purple! I, too, freed myself from a great deal of junk in the process.

These weren't wall installed - these are about the cheapest shelves I can get! - so at least there wasn't any real wall damage. Of course, the replacement shelves are already looking a bit disorderly, but they're a lot more usable than before, and I'm less scared that things I bump will cause an avalanche. I guess the avalanche happening makes there be less to worry about...
