I joined Linkedin, it really only works if you actually have connections to make which sadly I don't really have, all the ones I would add aren't actually on the network.  I don't wan't to get all facebook about it and just add people I know as most of my friends aren't actually in the same industry.

Your profile will attract the right connections, more than likely. I'm now "linked" to a lot of people I don't actually know, but who are in the same field or know someone I know or who want to keep me in mind for future openings in the field I work in. =)
