How have you escaped the glory and wonder that is Merlin? It's the most awesome show ever. There is gay porn less gay than this show. One day soon they will break out the episode where pink glittery fairies change Arthur into a girl and then even fandom will not be able to compete. It's like the writers spend half their time on lj reading fic then just pick the best bits to turn into episodes. I love it.
Ihncidentally, I didn't see it in this episode, but have you noticed Morgana's new sparkly white dress? It's made from tulle-bi-telli, an egyptian mesh with silver hammered into it. If it's the vintage stuff they used it costs a fortune. They might have used modern stuff though.
I claim I watch Merlin for the costumes, but I admit Arthur is pretty lush in a blonde bimbo kinda way ;)
Morgana's costumes are one of the things that made me take up sewing again. I'm determined to have at least one of them. The sparkly white one is one of my favourites, I'm glad you've identified the material; in one scene you can actually hear the metal in the dress and it was driving me mad trying to work out what it was made of. I doubt they forked out for vintage stuff; Merlin isn't exactly an accurate costume drama. They may mention it in the DVD extras though, they've gone on about Morgana's costumes before.
Arthur is awesome. I'm in love with his character more than anything else; he's just so hopelessly sweet. I'd probably kill him if he were real, but he makes for brilliant TV eye candy.
(I've only really watched the first two episodes of this season so far, and this show is definitely a bit ho-yay.)
I have to say, I like the way they write Prince Arthur as being a complete dick but, as we see in the siege of Camelot, he's definitely going to become the King Arthur we know and love-in-a-completely-platonic-manly-way.
Must resist urge to watch episode three and go to bed.
further info on the fabric, if you're really interested in trying to get a hold of it; Also known as Assuit (named for the place of manufacture) it is a mesh fabric with metal strips containing silver hammered into the weave. Tradition says this used to be done by little old ladies who would crush it flat with their teeth. Very popular in the 1920s, Assuit is usually found as shawls. This vintage assuit has a higher proportion of silver in the metal, and generally heavier/denser designs. The fabric was treated with a size which made it quite stiff. This stuff is very expensive. Modern assuit is still pretty steep per quantity, tends to have a lower quantity of silver in the metal, and more spaced out designs. Looking at Morgana's dress, I think this has been draped rather than patterned and I suspect they have only used one shawl, or at most two, and carefully placed the rest. Modern Assuit
