The last few weeks have been harrowing.

Con was more stressful than enjoyable for me. Alaina and Liz and I had a rehash session yesterday about how unenjoyable it was this year. The main highlight of Con was getting to see Alaina, actually, since she's deployed in Denver, but was able to take a couple weeks leave for Con.

1. wait, you seriously have not taken out any student loans yet? shit, girl.

2. july is a really bad time to get a retail job because hours are really tight (I glanced through our schedule at work last week and most people were averaging less than 15 hours). if you wait a few weeks for the back to school season to get going, your hours will probably pick up. honestly, if I can give you one piece of advice from the absurd amount of time I have spent working retail, it is that being good at credit will make your job SO MUCH EASIER. I don't know if on is super credit-driven as gap is, but everyone I know who's worked at gap has said the exact same thing. if you stand out to managers as being really good at credit or really good at recovery or whatever it is that they have you doing mostly, they're going to be a lot more receptive to letting you pick up extra shifts if you tell them your situation.

At UTEP I had my grandparents' money covering tuition and since I've been here I've been poor enough to qualify for the Board of Governors' Waiver and a generous Pell grant.... So, lucky so far, I guess.

ON is all about the credit. But I haven't been on register yet, so all I can do in that area is mention it every time I talk to someone and hope they sign up later... I think I'm getting good at recovery, but I also feel like I'm still in the "learning how to do everything" mode because I never work...
