Wondering if it's even possible to tell a well-meaning friend that he is mansplaining without hurting his feelings. Because he will take it as an attack, even if all I want to say is, "your experiences are not everyone else's experiences." And he is, overall, a very nice guy and a true, supportive friend, he just doesn't understand the difference ( Read more... )

In my experience, it's pretty fucking hard. Obviously I have a lot of dude friends who I love, but they can get really defensive when they're called out on their shit.

Another (female) friend managed to say what I wanted to say without upsetting him, so I guess it worked out. Why do they get so defensive about little things like that? Like, Dom leaves a glass on the table and I'm like, "is that your glass?" and he's like, "I was going to put it away!" but I know he wasn't.... Why is it such a big deal?
