Barley and other not much news

The place that offered and then de-offered HtB the job called back and offered him two different jobs, one a full time night shift and the other a two day a week day shift. He's just about decided to say yes to the two day a week day shift. He'd be working on my days off, but when I actually looked at it, I realized I would see him more that way ( Read more... )

I will never look at my mushroom-barley pie the same way again.

Good luck to HtB! This on-again, off-again job thing is for the birds, though. If they de-offer this one, he should tell 'em to stick it you know where.

Hee, I will try that recipe - it looks great!

Yeah, I think it's on them to prove they're for real after the last time. We figured the part-time job should give them a chance to do the right thing without too much investment on this end.

It almost does sound like baitg and switch with a full time NIGHT job now being offered. That's crappy.
:/
2 days a week (assuming they keep their word) might be a good supplemental income.

I agree! It was even scarier when they tried to tell him that he could switch to day shift in "at most, 90 days." I don't trust that!

Somewhere there is a good job that fits HtB's talents. I will pray that it reveals itself soon.

Still praying for HtB's job situation. The roller coaster is not fun in that case. :(

On the barley topic, I think barley can be substituated in recipes that call for cous cous, and there are a lot of cold cous cous salads. On foodtv.com you can look up recipes by ingredient and sort by level of difficulty and several other filters.

That's a great idea! I remember Alton Brown had a recipe for a barley and lemon drink. At the time it just made me think of that song in Mary Poppins about "never smell of barley wa-a-a-ter..." :D
