12 Teams, Count 'Em, 12

The Jr. FLL teams started practicing this week, which meant we had twelve robotics teams practicing today. Nine of them were there in the morning, and seven were there in the afternoon (this is because two of the teams, the high-schoolers and one of the FLL teams that is going to competition this coming Saturday, were there all day). And we had ( Read more... )

You know what? It's so refreshing to hear from someone who really loves what they do for work. ♥

I was EXHAUSTED at the end of the day, but it was so much fun. I am totally impressed with this Spock skit. (Their natural disaster is volcanic eruptions, and Spock is a "Vulcan-ologist.") Plus one of the parents has ordered a couple of Star Trek uniform shirts, like you do. (And it's not even the parent of the kid who's playing Spock.) :D :D

The Jr. FLL teams just started their practices today. They have much less to get done, so they will be finished at the same time as everyone else even though they're starting later. The teams got really excited after our scrimmage, but honestly, I think they are mostly just happy to come hang out with each other. The team that didn't advance was bummed out not that they didn't win, but that they were finished with practice for the season.

Darby! I'd been wondering how he was doing. Do you still have the chameleon at home?

Darby is doing great, but sadly, Circuit passed away over Christmas. She was laying eggs, which can be kind of dangerous, but she was doing just fine and had laid a bunch of them already. We went to bed that night and she was fine, and when we got up the next morning to check on her she was dead. We felt terrible. We don't know if she choked on some dirt (they don't normally have dirt in their enclosures, but they need dirt to lay eggs in) or if it was because she hadn't been eating (they don't normally eat while they're laying eggs either). At least she didn't seem to have suffered a lot because it was so sudden. Poor Circy.

I have accidentally volunteered to lead a team at Pummy's school. I've NO IDEA what I have gotten into, other than doing practice once a week, let alone twice a week, scares me. Can I come watch? Because I feel totally unprepared for this.

I emailed you! And yes, you can totally come watch practice, although we won't be practicing this coming Saturday because we'll have three teams at the Roosevelt qualifier. Our next practice is Saturday the 25th.

The only thing you need to do soon is go here and register your team. That will give you access to the season challenge materials and lesson plans. (I explained where to download them in the email, because it's a little bit tricky to find the link.) They want your team name when you register, so you'll have to come up with something - but registration does close at some point and you don't want to have your team start meeting and then find out that registration is closed ( ... )
