It reminded me of the deaf college kid who was killed while in police custody. He was arrested on some minor violation, but they handcuffed him. So he couldn't tell the officers he wasn't able to breathe. He died before they even got him in the car. Shit like this just makes me want to live on another planet.
I spent Friday evening in the emergency room waiting for a psych eval for my high functioning Autism Spectrum daughter because she got so upset in therapy that she threatened to kill herself. She was being overly dramatic and never intended to hurt herself. But because she was so insistent, so angry and so detailed in how she wanted to die they felt they had to follow procedure and recommend the psych eval. Something that, coming from a therapist's office and signed by a psychiatrist should have resulted in her being committed for a few days for a full evaluation.
We were very lucky that she had time to calm down and explain that she was only being dramatic because she was so angry and that she had no intention of actually hurting herself and that the resident psychiatrist decided he could believe her, otherwise we wouldn't have been able to leave with her that night.
The things we do to our kids when we think we're helping them.
Oh man, I am so sorry you and your daughter had to go through that. I'm glad you have professionals available who understand autism, and who trust your judgment.

I've never heard the phrase or "table ready", which also is so chilling to me.
I've always been a very tactile person, I love to TOUCH things, and I can't imagine ever being told not to, or that it wasn't proper to do so.
Ugh. It's true, the things we do to each other.
