Taxes suck

So, I started doing my taxes on TaxAct a couple weeks ago. I was getting about $600 back between state and federal, but I was waiting on one more W-2. I got it today. Entered the information. Instead of getting money back I now OWE $600. WTF?!?!?! It seems that one of my employers didn't take very much out of my income. $5000 in a little over 6 ( Read more... )

sailorv, sort of. They have you fill out a ton of paperwork regarding expenses, income, etc. They charge interest. STILL, you are much better off (and especially with the state, they will screw you) to file the taxes with only a partial payment and ask to pay the rest in payments, then to put off filing.

My only other suggestion is a future one - keep an eye on your paystubs, so that if an employer is not deducting reasonable amounts that you catch it and get them to fix things. Sounds like either you or they put the wrong amount of deductions at the time.

You might also contact them and double check that they didn't mess up your w2.

I already checked my w-2 against the final few paystubs I had from them. They didn't mess it up. I think I can afford to pay most of it. I'm thinking about checking into what interest they charge vs. what interest my Capital One card charges for a cash advance.
