Author's Note: It's that episode with the chocolate. It bugged me. I wanted to do something with it. So here it is!
“Ahhh, heaven…” Junko sighed voluptuously as she savored the piece of dark chocolate melting on her tongue. Closing her eyes she tilted her head upwards slightly, shivering in delight as the bittersweet slice of pleasure oozed down her throat. She stayed that way for a few more seconds before regretfully swallowing the rest of the piece. “If only it weren’t so expensive…” She sighed and frowned when she noticed Kei staring at the box of chocolates in front of him. “What is it? Can’t choose?” She looked at him expectantly and Kei raised his head to regard her with a mix of curiosity and… confusion. “I do not understand your reaction to it,” He said simply. “It is just chocolate.”
“Just - !” Junko spluttered and Kei flinched slightly. Apparently chocolate was a sensitive subject. “My apologies, Aoto-san but - “
“This is Monsieur Galino’s masterpiece, you know,” She tapped the box impatiently. “They only sell twenty boxes a day. Twenty! The whole of Tokyo!” She sighed irritably. “I waited in the queue for three hours every day this whole week just for this.”
He waited for her tirade to die down - that was the best way to wear Junko out when she was in battle mode. He had no idea about premium things and why they were in such high demand, but if Junko saw it fit to come down to his hidey-hole on her off day then perhaps he should not dismiss it so easily.
He looked at the little delicately crafted pieces of chocolate sitting snugly in their respective niches and carefully took one. A round, shiny, marbled thing. The aroma tickled his nose - cocoa, butter, with a hint of citrus. Rich and creamy with the promise of more if he would just pop it in…
Something clicked in his mind - a key had turned a lock somewhere in the labyrinth of his thoughts. He returned the chocolate to the tray amidst Junko’s outraged gasp. “Enomoto-san! What are you doing?”
“I cannot appreciate the chocolate, Aoto-san,” He said simply. “This expensive chocolate surely tastes superior to you, but to me it is just chocolate. It is wasted on me.”
She stared at him. He kept his gaze unflinching.
Giving up, Junko pulled the chocolate box to her with a pout. “I wish you’d learn instead of saying stuff like that, Enomoto-san. “ With that she picked up the piece he had rejected and popped in into her mouth. Almost immediately her face was transformed in bliss and she sighed dreamily. "Deeelicious..."
Enomoto Kei picked up the lock he had been working on before she came and continued to fiddle with it. In her rapture however, Junko completely missed the almost amused glint in his eyes every time she savoured a piece of chocolate. “It’s a pity you don’t know how to enjoy chocolate, Enomoto-san,” She murmured and Kei paused. A hint of a smile tugged on the corner of his lips as he glanced at her for just a moment - taking in her blissful, dreamy smile, the almost radiant glow of happiness emanating from her at the simple act of enjoying chocolate.
“Yes, it’s too bad,” He murmured and contentedly returned to his lock. "Please finish the whole box and bring it out with you, Aoto-san. I do not wish to breed ants here."
"The whole box?" She gasped; "But there are twenty-five pieces!"
He simply blinked at her as if she was pointing out that the sky was blue. "Take your time, then."
If only she was more attentive of his expressions, she would have noticed the mischievous twinkle in his eyes as he returned to his current lock puzzle.
