I wish I was taking linguistics with you three too, but I really can't complain too much as I am in Japan.
I had Karim for French 350-Mandinka Lit, and he was not terribly helpful to us, trying to understand a culture he couldn't explain too well because he was on the inside of it (being Mandinka himself). He's not a bad teacher, but not as eclectic in how he teaches. I observed his 102 class and I'd say the same about it.
