So, I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed this burgeoning Hollywood trend of we-can-do-it-better-than-you-did, where producers take a foreign movie that is not all that old, and basically copy it exactly; only THIS one has American actors and Hollywood-grade special effect tweaks.

It always amazes me when I watch a movie and later find out that it's a remake. I never realized that about True Lies until about a year ago. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to compare it to the original French movie.

I'm aware of it more often with TV shows. I don't get why there has to be a remake of Being Human for American audiences when the British version is so darn fun. I would have thought they'd just edit out the nudity and show the British series.

(Don't even get me started on the travesty that was the American version of Life on Mars. I didn't watch it, but I read enough about it to know that they changed the ending and it sucked compared to the British version.)

I hate the idea that Americans might be perceived as too lazy or too stupid to enjoy anything that doesn't look and sound like it was produced in Hollywood.

I cannot bear to see one more movie with Natalie Portman, she is in EVERYTHING lately, wtf is up with that? It's like there's a clone army of Natalie Portmans, creeping into all the movies O_o

Bollocks. All an anime is, is one long movie that runs for 25 episodes.
There is no stopping. There is no eating. There is only anime... yessss.

Now, I may be an math-stupid artist but 25x30 min. is definitely longer than 2 hours!

I have a similar complaint about the drive to dub absolutely fucking everything. *shudder* I hate dubbing. It's such a travesty!

I could sort of understand redoing the movie from scratch when the cultural context is too foreign for the audience to really understand (though that doesn't really stop the westerners from enjoying anime, so what do I know), but often it just comes across as "huh, yanno, this movie made buckets in Japan/France/Howonadonazdhystan, let's do it in English! Though the leads are vaguely oriental, and ye gads, what's with this yammering about existence? Throw in a couple of guns, some Caucasians and the project's a go."

I know, right?! (Lol! Oh no, you've stumbled onto another rant of mine!) I don't think I have ever seen a dub that was half as good as the original. And it has nothing to do with finding good voice actors. Well, ok, that does help, but it's not enough somehow.
Japanese take their voice acting profession seriously and it still sounds awkward -- haha OH MY GOD. That reminds me. If you want to have a fun time, watch an English show in Japanese. Big fun. XD
I don't understand the process their minds go through when choosing what voice actor to use for such-and-such American character, but the result is hilarious! I watched Supernatural in Japanese and I swear Dean sounds like Yakuza or something. XDDD
