A lot, but not much seems to be happening these days.

My internship right now consists of becoming very close friends with the Xerox machine and the full-size scanner. It's a shame because they're giving me so much and I'm not making much progress into actually helping them with picking out problems or doing inventory checks or... well, just ( Read more... )

It's OK. Don't feel too bad. That's what interns generally end up doing.

When I was an intern for Nestle, that's pretty much all I did. Scan and electronically organize the PMMs. And even now at my work, I make the interns copy our routers and clean up picture sheets/scans. lol

I hate to say it but when most people (read: managers) open up the intern position, they already have in mind that the person will be doing all the menial tasks that the reps/engineers/etc. shouldn't be doing because its below their paygrade.

The idea generally is for the intern to observe what the company does and how they do it first hand but not really do anything since the intern doesn't know anything really.

I guess basically, it's get another body who is close to getting their BA/BS because they have critical thinking skills but they can pay them (if it's a paid internship) the wages of someone who only has a HS diploma (or equivalent). Smart yet free or cheap labor. lol. OTL.

In the end it's really what you make of it. =) Hang in there.

Haha, it's anything but cheap labour - they're practically paying me a starting salary, so I feel pretty durned obliged to do even more for them.

It's been getting better these past couple of days, although I should be putting more effort into it. But my direct supervisor only works part-time so it's difficult for them to find more work for me to do, since the other half of the team isn't really... there.
