Desperate to be accepted to a hotel for his on-the-job training, Sungmin agrees to take on a favor that catches him off-guard.
“Bitch, wake up. You don’t want to be late on your first day, now don’t you?” A voice within close range echoed in his ears. He who was lying head down on his bed twisted and turned as he looked up on the culprit. He groaned and slowly got up, pushing his covers away when the other person suddenly started hitting him.
“Okay, okay, I’m up.” He stood up and raised his arms as if he was a culprit being cornered by the policemen. “What’s wrong with you though? You seem really excited.”
“Sungmin, how could you forget? And you were so excited.”
“No really, I’m serious. What’s up with today?”
“Nothing really, just your fucking first day on your on the job training. You know, that thing that’s going to have a big impact on your final grade?” His companion rolled his eyes and looked at Sungmin.
“No way, it’s today?” Sungmin stared at his companion before hurriedly grabbing his cellphone from the desk to look at the date. “It fucking is, oh my god, Jongwoon why didn’t you fucking tell me!”
“As far as I remember, it’s the first thing I told you for today.”
“Okay, so it’s my fault. I can’t help it, my imagination went wild last night and I had such a nice dream, I didn’t want to wake up.” Sungmin smiled cheekily as his companion looked at him with feign disgust.
“Let me guess, you’ve been fantasizing about the son of the CEO of the hotel you’re going to be working at, aren’t you? Don’t deny it you slut, I know you inside out.”
“You cunt, I’m no slut. And if it pleases you why, yes I was.” He shrugged his shoulders and turned to Jongwoon who has his brows raised and was looking at him in disbelief.
“In your dreams, Ming.”
“Yeah, we had awesome sex in my dream. Didn’t want to wake up, actually.” Sungmin felt a smile creeping up his face whilst Jongwoon just had the urge to hit him at that moment.
“You don’t even know his face.”
“Doesn’t matter, I’ll meet him later - hopefully.” He clasped his hands together while his expression was like someone who had been daydreaming.
Jongwoon sighed, looked at his wristwatch and turned to the guy who was busy fantasizing in his mind. “Better hurry up then, we’ll be late in our first day if you don’t move up. And I swear, Lee Sungmin if my grades get affected because of you I-”
“What would a little decrease in the grade do? You’re smart, afterall.” Sungmin taunted which led to the other half-chasing him around the room until he found his safe fortress - the bathing room.
“You’re lucky I’m not like you or else I would’ve smashed this door open already!”
//
“Do I look presentable enough already?” Sungmin said as he looked over the rear-view mirror, trying to put his hair into place and straighten the creases of his shirt. Needless to say, he was nervous. It was his first time doing an actual job, afterall. After being brought up in an environment where you don’t even have to work in order to survive, you can say that Sungmin was not used to working in exchange of something in return. Now, as he was taking a course on hotel and restaurant management, he had to have an on the job training in order to pass his course and graduate. The Lee family had a successful restaurant business; however, it was against the policies of the school that a student on OJT would work on their own companies. That was how Sungmin ended up applying in the very hotel that they were on their way to.
Kim Jongwoon, on the other hand, was his cousin who had the same course as he was and needed a job for his own OJT. Compared to Sungmin, he was more composed and poised however Sungmin often disses it out and complains how Jongwoon seem to be perfect at everything while he wasn’t. But according to him, “I’m beautiful, he’s no match to me.”
“Yes you do,” Jongwoon, who was outside the car by Sungmin’s side, replied. “Now get out of the fucking car so we can proceed.” He didn’t even wait for Sungmin to get up, he marched up to the entrance as Sungmin went out of the car, making no efforts to catch up and walks slowly.
That was until he heard the sound of a car honking, almost hitting him had he not moved from his spot. When he got over the shock of almost being run down by a car, the anger inside of him vent up which made him stomp towards the driver’s window and started rambling.
“You fucking cunt, can you not look at where you are going? I almost got hit by you. I was this close from dying and I haven’t even experienced having a job yet.” Sungmin complained, face turning red in anger.
The tinted window of the designer car rolled down, revealing a young man dressed in a business suit, wearing sunglasses. He looked like a big-time person but Sungmin couldn’t care less. He was expecting the guy to utter even a small apology but to his chagrin, the latter feigned innocence. “What was that again?” He said and while Sungmin was left speechless and dumbstruck, he continued driving until he found his parking spot. Oh how much he had wanted to pounce on that guy, had he not still have an interview to attend.
He and Jongwoon made their way towards the front desk, only to be met by a couple who were too busy mooching off each other’s faces to even bother with their supposed customers. Well not literally mooching off but being on such close proximity of less than even a centimeter. Realizing their presence - in other words, Sungmin faking a cough in order to catch their attention, the two broke off each other, turned to fix themselves and faced them. The two felt an awkward stop, realizing that they had actually ruined a moment - even if they weren’t supposed to see it.
“Good morning, gentlemen. What may we do for you?” The first of the two, the one with the prominent and visible gums when he smiled, asked whilst offering a smile.
“Well, first off maybe you should stop getting your hands on each other while you’re at work. It doesn’t look please to the normal-” Sungmin complained before Jongwoon covered his mouth and took the opportunity to speak and ask about the job interviews.
“Excuse him, he has the tendency to blabber things. We were wondering where and what time exactly are the interviews going to be held?” He asked, looking around the reception area, observing how clean and white the place was - as if a single stain would look so distinct amongst the white.
“Nah, it’s okay, he’s right though. I can’t seem to stop myself from wanting to touch-” The other guy spoke up, eyeing the guy beside him. He wanted to advance forward but then suddenly remembered that there were two people in front of them when his companion elbowed him on the guy.
“Ouch, Hyukkie that hurt!” He said, massaging his sides. “Oh right, it’s by the second floor. When you get out of the elevator, turn right and the farthest door would be your destination.” He said while making hand movements to emphasize his point.
“Thanks. Come on, Sungmin.” Jongwoon tugged Sungmin who was busy observing the interior of the hotel.
“Goodluck on your interview, we hope you’ll be able to get in! I heard there were only two slots left..”
//
Jongwoon, along with Sungmin went to where they were directed at and peeked in to see whether anyone was inside.
“There’s no one inside.” Sungmin said as he looked around the room which showed no signs of life.
“You sure? I’ll go down and ask those two, you stay here and wait.” Yesung instructed.
Sungmin walked around the spacious office, observing every nook and cranny of the sophisticated looking room. He moved over to the desk where a name plate was placed; it read, ‘Cho Junghyun’. He assumed that it was the name of the CEO of the hotel.
The sudden sound of the doorknob turning startled Sungmin, which made him quickly sit on the chair in front of the desk. He sat up straight, hoping to look professional, and fiddled with the straps of his bag, not wanting to make eye contact with whoever entered the room until the intruder spoke. He knew that it wasn’t Jongwoon because had it been him, he would start talking even if the door wasn’t completely open.
Getting enough of the awkward silence, he looked up and came face-to-face with the same man who almost hit him with his car earlier. And by judging the way he’s dressed up, it looks like he’s applying for a position in the company as well. A rival. However, what irritated him was that he didn’t even bother speaking up and was simply observing Sungmin. “It’s you, you’re that guy who almost run over me a while ago and didn’t even apologize!” He stood up, pointing an accusatory finger at the latter who simply had his brows raised. Needless to say, his lack of reaction infuriated him.
“You said it yourself, I almost hit you but I didn’t actually hit you and look, you’re safe and unharmed. Why is there a need to apologize for something that didn’t happen?” The other guy replied as he removed his sunglasses, revealing a pair of chocolate brown eyes. Had he not been such a prude guy, Sungmin would find it tantalizing.
“Well then maybe you should reconsider applying for a job in here.” Sungmin retorted as he rolled his eyes, sending a smug glance towards the stranger’s direction.
“Excuse me, applying for a job in here?” The other looked at him in confusion. Sungmin took it as an opportunity to discourage the latter; after all, only two spots were left and he was determined to make those spots Jongwoon’s and his.
“Aren’t you apply for a job here as well? Let me tell you, you don’t need it - you seem rich enough and pssh, I don’t think you’d be able to earn much here anyways… So just find another job.” Sungmin started, mocking the hotel even if deep down he knew how much prestige it had. What’s a guy to do? He had to discourage him somehow.
While Sungmin was expecting the other to have a discouraged look on his face, he was instead met with a slight smirk. “Oh yeah, if this company is that bad then why are you applying for it?”
“I’m not after the pay, I’m after the grade I get once I work in here.”
“So you’re having this as you on the job training, if I’m not mistaken?” He traced the desk with his fingers and went over the back of the desk, still standing and eyes on Sungmin.
“Right, I’m actually scheduled for an interview right now along with my cousin. I wonder what’s taking that damn interviewer so long?”
“Impatient aren’t we?” He taunted.
“Well, we were sent a message that the interview starts at around eleven o’clock am, and…” Sungmin paused to take a look at his wristwatch. “..it’s eleven fifteen already. And why yes, I’m an impatient bitch, so what?”
“Well if you’re so impatient then why don’t we start the interview now? Good morning, my name is Cho Kyuhyun, the son of the hotel’s CEO. Because father’s away for now, I had been tasked to take over the job interviews.” Kyuhyun placed his things down and took a sit at the revolving chair behind the wooden desk. He gave the currently dumbfounded Sungmin a smile as he offered a hand.
Sungmin on the other hand, who was still flabbergasted by the mistake he had committed, simply stared at the extended hand before him. He let out a crippled laugh whilst avoiding eye contact with Kyuhyun. He was definitely embarrassed and the look on the other man’s face clearly states that he was enjoying every bit of Sungmin’s misfortune.
“I’m screwed, aren’t I?”
“Well by screwed do you mean you just embarrassed yourself wholly or screwed as in you wouldn’t be given a chance to be accepted in this company anymore, with your display just a while ago?”
“Uh.. both?”
“Yup, you’re totally screwed then uh..”
“Lee Sungmin.”
“Right, Sungmin. You do know what you just did right?”
“I don’t think it caused much trouble anyways, plus I was only defending my rights and also showcasing my skills in encouraging people - well, in this case discouraging people. It was partly your fault though, had you spoke up earlier, things wouldn’t have gone this way.” Sungmin suddenly blurted out. Realizing what he had just said, he quickly covered his mouth with his hands and looked at Kyuhyun with worried eyes.
“Oh my god, I didn’t mean to say that. If you’re thinking of sending me out this room already, please reconsider. I really need this job and-“ Sungmin stood abruptly, took hold of Kyuhyun’s hands and looked at him pleadingly. However, as he was speaking, he was abrupted by the sound of a cellphone ringing.
On reflex, Kyuhyun took his hand away from Sungmin and looked for his cellphone. Once he found it and saw the caller ID, he looked at Sungmin and whispered. “It’s father. I’ll talk to you in a bit. Don’t feel contempt yet, just saying.” He turned away and pressed the answer button but not before smirking in triumph at Sungmin.
The moment he turned around was the time a scowl befell on Sungmin’s expression. He just couldn’t believe the guy - had he secretly wanted to see him embarrassed more than he already is? Then a thought came to his mind, if he was the CEO’s son then wouldn’t he be the same person Sungmin had allegedly fantasized about; the faceless man he was having hot sex with in his dream? Now he felt disgusted. He looked at Kyuhyun who was busy talking on the phone and observed him from head to toe. He had to admit, he looked as dashing as how he heard from the people who were gossiping about him. However, while looks are a good basis on first impression - his attitude sucked. Well, it may be partly his fault but that doesn’t do the guy justice. Oh the words he could’ve uttered in defense if only he wasn’t afraid that Kyuhyun would go merciless on him.
He watched as Kyuhyun’s expression changes every time he speaks up on the phone. Sungmin would be lying if he said he didn’t find it cute as compared to his usual stoic and taunting one. He was about to giggle when suddenly, Kyuhyun turned to him, narrowing his eyes. Sungmin heard him say his goodbye to his father and watched as he ended the call and gently threw the phone back into his bag. He looked up and saw Kyuhyun staring at him intently, deep in thought.
“You want this job, don’t you?” He said slowly, eyes still not leaving Sungmin which made the latter uncomfortable.
“Yeah, I desperately need it so please forget what I said earlier, I was just kidding!”
“I’ll hire you if you do me a favor.”
“Anything!”
“Anything, you say?”
“Yes, as long as I get this job.”
“Very well. You’ll be working as a bellhop then - work starts tomorrow. Also, as for that favor, go to this room at eight-thirty pm, I’ll be seeing you there.” Kyuhyun said as he scribbled something on a post-it and gave it to Sungmin.
Sungmin examined that contents of the note and found himself nodding in reply. “Oh, okay.”
“Remember this, if you don’t come then consider your job gone.”
“Yes, sir.” Sungmin bowed as he watched Kyuhyun storm out of the room.
///
“Where the fuck have you been, do you not know what I had to go through in that interview!?” Sungmin said as he dragged Jongwoon, the moment he saw him walking casually in the hallway.
“Woah, chill out, Ming. I spoke with the service manager and he gave me a job. Apparently he was the CEO’s nephew. Kim Ryeowook, if I’m not mistaken.”
“Oh.” He paused. “You. You got a fucking job and you didn’t even include me?”
“Well, he was only looking for one personnel…”
Sungmin grabbed his shoulders and shook him, “Jongwoon, how could you. You’re going to be at least enjoying your job while I’m wrapped around that CEO’s snarky son’s fingers trying to get a job.”
“You met with the CEO’s son? Wow, you must’ve been elated.”
“I take it back, he’s the worst. He’s a total jerk, Jongwoon. I regret fantasizing about him and if only I could delete that horrid dream I had of him off my mind I’d-”
“Wow, I didn’t know you thought of me like that.” A voice from behind beckons. Sungmin felt his face reddening the moment he heard the low familiar voice. He’s dead, he knew it.
“Don’t be too full of yourself, that’s before I got to know you.” He said as he faced the person behind him.
“Why, I’m still me, aren’t I?”
“See this? This is the length of curses I would’ve thrown at you but I’m holding myself back because I know I’ll get in trouble if I do.” Sungmin said as he demonstrated exaggeratedly with his arms. Jongwoon stood there amused at the display in front of him while the other, Kyuhyun, only smirked in return.
“It’s a good thing you know your limits. Anyways, don’t forget about tomorrow, are we clear?”
“Oh I wouldn’t forget about it; my fucking job depends on it.”
“Language, Sungmin. I’ll be seeing you tomorrow. Or maybe you’ll be seeing me in your dreams tonight, who knows.” He said as he stepped on the elevator and gave a slight nod to Jongwoon when the doors closed. Jongwoon let out a laugh as he looked over his companion who had his mouth open in disbelief. That guy was really testing him, he thought. At the same time, the moment he heard his name coming from the guy’s mouth, he felt a little something in his stomach. He was convinced that it was disgust, but who knows?
“That jerk.”
//
The next day, Sungmin started his work as a bellhop, with instructions coming from Hyukjae, one of the guys who were patronizing over the reception desk the previous day. Of course, things weren’t always easy the first time you do them. Sungmin learned this the hard way, too.
Once he was transporting a cart full of newly washed towels when suddenly, the wheels of the cart got caught on the carpet and it sent the towels scattering around the hallway. At first he was relieved because the last time he looked, no one was there however, his mood faltered upon seeing Kyuhyun at the end of the corridor, laughing at his expense. That wasn’t the only one, though and as if fate has been playing around with him, every time he messed up, Kyuhyun was there.
He was startled when during his job, his cellphone alarm rang. He took out his cellphone and saw the reminder he had put himself - to go to the room Kyuhyun had assigned him ahead of time. He hurriedly fixed himself and put away his things, heading off.
As he was looking through the number plates, trying to find the specific room he was asked to go to, he spotted Kyuhyun in a suit walking back and forth in front of a door, which he assumed was his destination. He stopped at the sight of Sungmin.
“Oh great, you’re here. I thought you were going to be late.”
“Dude, chill. Now tell me what this favor you need to ask of me is so I can leave and be free froom your grasps. Of course, I didn’t mean to be impatient - take your time.”
Sungmin watched as Kyuhyun scanned him from head to toe before smirking, “You’re perfect for this.”
“Uh, excuse me?” He said, confused.
“Sleep with me, just for tonight.” Kyuhyun said with a straight expression.
Sungmin, on the other hand, was fazed. “What.”
“Didn’t you hear me? I said sleep with me for tonight.”
“Sir, you must be mistaken. Although you are the CEO’s son, I don’t think sleeping with you is part of our services.”
