I have to turn off the tv. It is sucking me in like on 9/11 again. I have packed my car full of stuff for the Salvation Army and as soon as I find those keys Im gonna take it down and find out about volunteering at one of the shelters. Anyone else want to go with?

Advice from today's foray bubbie_ellie September 4 2005, 23:25:01 UTC
Ed Bluestien got overwhelmed today and if you go late in the day tomorrow they may be as well (at 3:00 the line was a couple of miles long and we tried to go to the red cross who started to send us back and then said they were told not to send any more)

Go to Salvation army on Neches between 7th & 8th. Take the alley. That drop off feeds the Convention center directly.

The red cross near MLK will have forms you can fill out to offer the kind of work you are looking to do Jazz. Pretty much all volunteers need to go directly there and you have to do it in person.

They are probably good on volunteers through the weekend (unless you want to jump in at someplace like Ed Bluestein, they may take you right there to unload). During the work week they will have more need.

The foodbank has a website you can sign up for work at. They do need sorters next week.

DO NOT give stuff to Goodwill. They put it in thier own stock and issues vouchers but its not earmarked specifically for the hurricain victims.
