Challenge: Rocky Road #6 (kitchen), Chocolate Chip Mint #25 (rumpled), Vanilla #28 (mail/letter/package)
Title: Mail Time
Notes: I'm feeling somewhat better! Enough to start writing again, anyway. :)
I clutched the mail to my chest as the wind blew my long gray wool coat against my legs and attempted to pull the packages and letters from my hands. Making my way around the building, I wrestled the back door open and was blown inside, the wind slamming the door behind me. Setting my armful down, I pulled my coat off and hung it up, only then aware of the quiet giggling behind me.
“What?” I demanded, turning around and running a hand through my hair, which looked like it had been combed with an eggbeater.
Ker and Stella were sitting at the pass-through counter eating nachos and giggling at me. “Oh, Cat, you look... ummm...” Stella glanced at Ker and they both started laughing again, though he tried to suppress it.
“Windblown?” he suggested tactfully.
I snorted. “Since it /is/ rather windy out, that would seem to be the appropriate description,” I said dryly. Putting my hair back with a hair tie, I mentally called it good and walked over to the counter to snag a chip. “Not bad, whose handiwork?”
They both shrugged, but it was Ker who said, “We worked together.” Stella was busy digging through the bills and junk mail to see what we got that was actually of interest, sorting everything into piles as she did. With a cry of triumph, she held up a package.
“They're here!” she squealed, and tore open the package. Inside was a pasteboard box; when the lid was lifted, it revealed the contents: our new business cards.
