It's actually not terribly hard to teach yourself. The online knitting community is ridiculously helpful: there's even a website with slow-mo close-up videos of someone doing various knitting moves you can watch if you're a visual learner. Me? I like diagrams in books. I taught myself with the original stitch n' bitch, but I actually really, really, like dominitrix. It has niftier projects, and more information.
