just how expensive is 'really expensive' when you're talking about banjos?
you could put it towards your new hobby.

The initial google search lead me to believe most banjos are worth more than $500.

Today, I found a banjo on target.com for $159, which is much more reasonable for my ridiculous idea of the week.

Of course, you can get a cheap entry level acoustic guitar for only $60, which is even better for a hobby of the week situation, but not as funny.

I am using the money (600) plus an extra check to put out a 12" LP

That is by far the best (as in most unique and fun) use I've heard so far.

Ours is going all to household stuff--those expensive photos of the kids we just got, gardening, Mason jars, etc.

Yeah, we're real exciting over here. :P

Speaking of mason jars! Sarah and I were talking about you-pick farms and trying our hands at making preserves or jam with some of the spoils, and I think you mentioned having done it before. I'll try and remember to ask you about it next time I see you. You're like an awesome dictionary of useful knowledge.
