Winter survival

Wow, I am totally overwhelmed with the response to Dislocation. Thank you so much, everyone, for your kind words and support. I don't think that story is the best thing I have ever written, but damn if it didn't get the wheels all greased up and running again. Er, in a manner of speaking. *g* Anyway, I'm not letting myself get too critical of ( Read more... )

Hey maybe it's the frozen northern climes, but 1, 2 and 4 are my top performers, too! (Oh, and the Neutrogena works really well as a base for bpal oils, too!)

Thank you, THANK you for this post. I am having a hell of a time with my skin this year and nothing I've tried seems to work on my hypersensitive "scratch it and it will welt up in protest" skin. The past two weeks have been especially hard on my face with dry, flakiness that nothing seems to alleviate. I've had to fight eczema-prone skin for years (and have long been sold on Nutrogena's Sesame Oil), but finding lotions or cleansers for my face has always been a tricky matter. There has been much failure, sadly.

Tomorrow I'm going to brave the Nordstroms at the evil mall to get some of that Kiehl's, OMG. I'm tired of feeling like the lizard-lady.

Kiehl's is made of WIN! I've been using their stuff since I was 15. The lipbalm is amazing. The facial cleanser is lovely and gently. I like their moisturizers fine--but the LUSH one I've been using is fabulous.

My skin has been so dry this winter it hurts. Oil didn't help. I found a borage dry skin lotion at Whole Foods made by ShiKai, but I wouldn't use it on my face. Its gentle and super moisturizing and it keeps my skin from hurting. We also got a new humidifier and I think that is helping too.

LUSH Paradise Regained facial moisturizer
ShiKai Borage extra dry skin therapy - amazing!

My skin would not be nearly so fabulous as it is without Paula's Choice 2% BHA solution. When I use this stuff every day, like I am now, I pretty much don't break out, ever, and my skin gets sooooo smooth. Yays! Bath and Body Works' Lay It On Thick body lotion is my stuff of choice for hand cream - super thick and moisturising, sinks in quickly, and smells nice.

(Re SPN: Sam, Dean...and a burly leather biker dude. That Dean kept talking to, instead of turning around and leaving. Aaaaaand...fade to black. !!! lulz.)

Gold Bond medicated lotion. I have *horrifically* dry skin on my legs, and it's the most soothing thing I've tried.

And I haven't needed it this year, but Bag Balm (yes, the stuff for cows! but you can get it next to the lotions in a lot of stores) worked miracles on my chapped, cracked hands when I was working day-care and washed my hands 90000000x a day in the dead of winter.

Clearly, this reveals a lot about my budget for skin-care products, but they *do* both work for me.

I second the Bag Balm-- I've been wearing it to bed on hands, elbows, and tootsies. Works great! Only problem is my husband says I smell just like dog shampoo. :P Conducive to romance, it is not.
