06/4/19 (Wed)
…I got tired of sandwiches.
(laugh)
/Miya
So
Just now I suddenly thought
This is just a copy of my life, isn't it. (1)
Clothes, food, music, everything it seems.
Once I play into it,
things begin to grind together, and soon it's full of that. (2)
So, when I become weary of it, I look to the next thing。
Though, "weariness" is the wrong word,
regarding music and methods of expression
somehow, if I were to grasp it, it would just say "next, next" (3)
…I'm really sorry (laugh)
So now,
endlessly looking to find what exactly comes next
recently,
since after Kekkonshiki no Uta, I've wondered
when expecting fan mail,
and there is particularly a lot of attention from boys
what are the consequences? (4)
I want to see Furious Miyavi! (☆o☆)
Am I like that? (laugh)
Though it's a great feeling and I appreciate it
only
right now that's grasping at a hopeless thing.
Certainly, I understand it's self-centered and whatnot,
I think I have some kind of ego.
But,
I've said this in various interviews among other things, but I'm also saying it now (5)
Obviously, I'm not just a commodity.
Because I always want to be an artist.
It's not a matter of choosing or not choosing.
Again, maybe this is the wrong expression for it.
How much did it cost to be victorious and break onto the charts? (6)
Something like 10 years later, 20 years later, as a matter of fact, there will be no meaning to it.
For that reason, now I'm on a direct, unforked road, though imperfectly so, but it's the same thing. (7)
Therefore,
already, I have to go and get my inheritance. (8)
Though it is fickle and immoral, maybe it's because it's different that I must go and get it. (9)
On the other hand,
again, at that minute, to be given an intense and violent death.
Just kidding-.
Ah, except to the men, of course. (10)
(☆o☆)
Oh!!
Um, so with that (11)
What to say on this cold night
The good and the bad have different roles.
This stuff will be given our attention some other time.
Let's pray to the sandwiches.
And now,
the chorus:
la~la~la~
Thank~you~
E~g~g~
Sa~ndo~
(musical interlude)
Frankly~
Well~
I don't want to see it~
(fade out)
I was ill-prepared.
*presses hands together in prayer* (12)
/Mi
Notes:
Miyavi, please use more kanji so I don't have to guess at which word you're using!!
(1) Shukuzu are small sketches of original Japanese and Chinese masterpieces.
(2) I think he means, things begin to grate at him (irritate him or just plain go wrong) and then everything follows. Bakka is a colloquialism for "bakkari."
(3) To clarify, he uses the conditional form of tsukamu, which implies that he's saying once he actually gets a hold of whatever it is that he's looking for, he basically hears a little voice saying, "What's next? What's next?" As a student from a pretty vigorous school, I can attest to how empowering this kind of drive can be at first, but ultimately it's a very unsatisfying way to go about life (without ever feeling that you can stop to appreciate your achievements because it's all about how you can trump your last accomplishment~)
(4) He may mean consequences, as in the implications of getting mail from lots of men. Um. Is he being propositioned by men again? …I am so bewildered by theつーか so suggestions are totally welcome on that front.
(5)言うてる = Kansai-ben for itte iru
(6) Nanbo is Kansai-ben for "ikura" or "how much?" Think the song "Ossan Ossan Ore Nanbo?" I'm assuming the chart he's talking about is
the Oricon.
(7) Wow, that's quite the mature, adult understanding to have. I think he's saying, "No matter what I do now, the likelihood that it will matter in 10 or 20 years is unlikely. But I am an artist and I enjoy what I do-even knowing what little difference it will make, I will continue doing it." Could this be the reason for all the discontent lately? Coming to terms with this?
(8) In one way, it's means he has to go back to work, but also that he has to go back to this "artist" identity that he can't help but be. The 待っ part of the sentence confuses me, so suggestions are welcome.
(9) "Kamo" is a colloquialism for "kamo shiremasen."
(10) Hah. Trying to save face in front of the men. But joking around about that sort of thing is a pretty sensitive topic. I mean, I've always gotten this James Dean-esque, "Live Fast, Die Young" (or, I guess, as close as the Japanese can get to that) mentality from Miyavi, and he *is* working on a Nirvana tribute CD and Kurt Cobain *is* famous for his young death…
(11) "Sonna kanji de" is a stock filler phrase. But "kanya" after that? I don't think I have it down quite.
(12) I changed this into an action because no matter how I wrote it in English, it had this Christian air that I was uncomfortable with. Anyway, it's hard to translate this action into something you say without sounding preachy, which isn't what comes across in Japanese. The line before was a little worrying, since if it refers to what I think it does, Miyavi *was* rushed into the whole solo scene pretty quickly, without the support system that band members would've been. The whole thing really seems like it stressed him out, but maybe now he's coming to terms with it?

WAHA, start at full speed down the invincible highway. "Watch as I catch up."

Don't you have some free time to drop in and park? (3)
You're in the passenger seat until your eyes awaken,
because we keep running along the horizon.
You can't avoid that lullaby, but
it is the sound of an extraordinary engine-how could you mind?
…I forgot my license.
Notes:
(1) Jintori is a pretty unique Japanese children's game. I don't really know the English equivalent of it. It's a Japanese game where you start out with an established territory, play rock paper scissors and try to extend your territory until you enclose all your opponents. Find more details about it here:
http://xogij.blogs.com/xogij/2005/05/childs_play.html.
(2) Traffic, or juutai, can also mean delay or stagnation. I chose "traffic" to fit the car theme of this song.
(3) This is a pun on the -masu form of the word "motsu," and the kanji that he uses, which is for "mochi" or small sticky rice cakes. It's a play on words that perhaps implies that during that break, you'd go and eat mochi.

Left out of the loop, it was manufactured. It's half-done, it's in a liquid state.
Even it's umbilical cord looks plastic.

Are you rate...

My wish is merely wash'in…my life.
~a reflective scene~
"Yes-hey, hey!--, please be quiet. Yes, everyone, the exchange student is waiting for a favorable wind. Everyone, please make friends for me. Right "
(onomatopoeia mimicking the sound of people talking)
"Hey, hey you, where did you come from?"
…
"Test tube."
The very sight makes me sick...
Selling by the pount the "fruit of love"
adjusting histories, the test tube baby.
"You don't understand, and you don't want to understand."
Notes:
カヤの外 means to be left out of the loop, literally left outside the mosquito net.
The lyrics say "carbonated water" but Miyavi sings "Pepsi-Cola."
コラ may be a play on words, since it's both an interjection that means "Hey!" and written 子等 means "children."
“愛の結晶” is an euphemism for "children."
由緒 implies lineages, a specific kind of history.

How much is it without or with tax?
How much if I'm haggling and taking a kickback?
Is that honest accounting? How much.
(¥o¥)&($o$)
Notes:
"Ossan" is a Kansai-ben, derogatory term for "uncle."
"Nanbo" obviously is Kansai-ben for "ikura" ("how much?").
NaNa the Movie sucked me in. I want to have her babies. Listen to the song if you have a chance.
