Card 1: The Magician
Card 2: King of Pentacles
Card 3: Upside down Star
Card 4: Eight of Wands
Card 5: Upside down Six of Wands
Card 6: Queen of Wands
Card 7: Upside down King of Wands
Card 8: Three of Wands
Card 9: Upside down Hermit
Card 10: Five of Pentacles
In this case, I will refer to Mav as the querent. He is represented by The Magician. The Magician is someone that is known to be a smooth talker, or even a con man. This... seems a good match for Maverick. A strong will and ability to make things happen simply by saying they will is also associated with the Magician, and a trait I would associate with Maverick.
Crossing him, as the second card, is the King of Pentacles. Interpreted as a person, this would be someone that is cold, aloof, and set on always being in charge. He can be secretly charming, even funny and entertaining, but he is most known as someone who will demand to be in control, and will possess the plan for making something happen.
In the third position, representing the ultimate goal, is the upside down Star. This... is not good. An upside down Star indicates that hope and guidance will be lost. It's often an indicator of impending suicide. While the Star is one of the most hopeful cards, when turned upside down, it becomes hopelessness and failure.
In the fourth position, past influences that brought him to where he is, we have the Eight of Wands. This fits well with Maverick. It is a card of fearlessness, and more than that, it's a card of strength, because his iron will and determination and confidence have always brought him the outcome he desired. He feels he can conquer this battle because he has never lost before when he was all in. Always determined to act alone and not wait up for others, but he has been brought to where he is because that method has never failed him yet.
Funnily enough, in the fifth position, we find an upside down Six of Wands. This position is for recent past events, and the card placed here shows that in his recent past, he was placed in a position where he had to go it alone. Something dear to him was lost, and he was left alone to find a way to safety again. This could and probably does very simply indicate Kacia being trapped in Hell. He had invested every bit of himself he could let go of into her. She became his confidante, his best friend, in many ways his soulmate, only to be taken, with him left struggling to make sense of it on his own.
Card six is for future influences, and in its place, we find a Queen of Wands. Knowing now what I do about how death works in that world, and the potential to leave behind something of themself, I have absolutely no doubts that this card represents Nakigoe. Her touch left behind where she died in Hell, her guidance will factor heavily into Maverick's navigation of it. Her presence and guidance will help determine his overall success or failure.
In the seventh position, representing Maverick's true current state, we find an upside down King of Wands. This is the card of a tyrant, someone with an awful temper, who demands that things be done his way or you get the hell out. Which does describe Mav at his ugliest. It can also be a sign of being afraid to take a risk and potentially lose what he already has, his current kingdom. Which fits. Maverick is difficult, even tyranical at times, with a violent temper, and this situation would make him even moreso than usual. He would also be very afraid, both of losing his son, losing his life, finding confirmation that Kacia is already dead and there is nothing he can do.
In the eighth position, for environmental factors, we find the Three of Wands. This would indicate waiting for plans to be fulfilled, or a journey to begin. In these circumstances, I would interpret the card to take its meaning of travel. He has a long journey ahead of him, and any help is a long ways off.
The ninth position, the position for motives, fears, and emotions, is that of an upside down Hermit, which is an understandable, but frightening, card to draw in his position. It shows that he fears being left alone in the dark, possibly too lost to find a way home any more. He was alone before, but now he may well be not just alone, but alone with no light and no path to follow.
In the final position, that of the ultimate outcome if this path is followed, we find the Five of Pentacles. This... is not a pleasant sign. The Five of Pentacles means loss, plain and simple. He will lose the physical that matters to him, and will enter into a very dark and lonely time. Combined with the upside down Star, I find it safe to assume his quest will not be successful if he goes this alone, so certain he can handle everything himself, and he will lose Kacia.
