Ideas!

SO!  Seeing as though $20 million is a wee bit of money, and that's an awful lot of doors to knock on, I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for different avenues.  The ones I've recieved so far are ( Read more... )

This.

It's very rare for a young person to get funded for an idea like this without major amounts of influence.

Most 'young people' doing things like this do-so within the bounds of a pre-existing organization. i.e. Getting their church to sponsor it, getting an already non-profit to expand their operations to the area that the inspired individual wants to help in.

Once you get your degree, people's automatic respect will rise somewhat and money will be possible to raise. Not easier, just possible. Even then, they'll think you're just a kid, anyway.

If you still want to fund your own, I agree with nacirema_cult- get involved with groups that are already doing similar acts and get experience.

Here are a few sites:
A School Bell Rings They're currently in Africa, but have Latin american and asian eventual plans and are open to suggestions for locations.
The Amity Foundation works are in China.
Habitat for Humanities fixes and rebuilds schools. You can look into working with them. In fact, they have a contract with the local Dept ( ... )

*chuckles* On some level, I knoe you're right. On many, I can't even begin to slow down. For one, I knoe myself, and if I sit back and do nothing, or just wait for paperwork to go through, THAT is when I get discouraged. As far as buying the land there, I knoe that I cant purchase it myself. I have Paolo's mom and (it seems) dad helping me out with that. If I can provide the funding, they're going to help me on the other side of things. I understand that there is a LOT I don't knoe, but I also understand that I'm going to have thing at least being built within the next 5 years, which means I need to get the property and the money fairly quickly ( ... )

Look into starting a non-profit organization to do this. That amount of money is not something that you want on your personal financial record. Plus, it will make any fundraising you do much more legitimate looking to others.

That's actually what I'm in the process of doing this very moment. Thanks, ^ ^

No, you're right, I hadn't listed your actor suggestion. That's on my personal list of to-do's, but I think I was working on a couple of lists at once and accidentally left that one out. The list on here is for things that I can personally do, for the most part. They aren't going to bring in too much money, but it'll be something, and they're things I can do in my spare time, particularly early in the morning or late in the evening when other things can't be done ( ... )

For the anime club: they probably won't be organized enough for anything at all until late October. Meetings will probably still be on Wednesdays, but a calendar of which are meetings and which are Council meetings probably won't be prepared until mid-September ( ... )

Whoops...I meang get a *whole school* of students behind a charitable project, not get any students, period.

OH! Last year the Mass Comm center did a huge project on the problems in Darfur. Mass Comm students designed t-shirts and posters and things that they sold, and the profits went to charities that are attempting to stop the abuses in Darfur.

fake your own death for the insurance money.
rob a bank or twelve.
become a hit-woman.
import and sell narcotics.
sell your body to science.
sell your body to twenty men for one million dollars each.
or 10 fat men for two million dollars each.
talk to your local news and/or national news.
talk to your congress men and women.

Five years ago you were planning with all the fire of your soul to get married. Think about that.

Also, read this article.

I would never want to discourage you from good. Just temper your mettle so that it will do the most good while it lasts. Trust yourself no farther than you can throw yourself, and remember that things rarely go the way you expect them to. And if you haven't already (you probably have), ask God for help, because you'll need it.

And ask some more :)
