To your first question: Yes it does, and for realistic reasons too. If my GPA drops or my academic standing is compromised, I can lose my scholarships.
To your second: They don't mix much with outsiders.
To your third: When we had to move back to America I think the culture shocked them, and then having to spend several years in the slums until my dad finished college (second time around, for his teaching degree) probably made them more nervous still.
You're clearly doing the right thing. Though I understand why your parent's apparent disapproval bothers you. All of us, to a certain extent, want to make our parents proud. But it sounds like your parents have unrealistic expectations of you.
At this point, focus on finishing your classes and scoring well. Focus on college. That is where the positive reinforcement is coming from. Not your parents unfortunately.
Thanks. Heh, my counselor couldn't understand why no matter how cheap staying at home and commuting to the local college was, I was demanding on-campus housing.
