I posted this to FB which prompted a reply. Here is my response to that reply.
No violence is healthy, whether it's on ourselves or others. That is an interesting thought. I would love to see a study of which kinds of abuse lead to the different responses .I had to go away and think on this. Here are my thoughts. Bullying does not ever come from a place of confidence. The strong self-worth kids will resent, stand up to, or defy their abusers. The ones that are not so confident will find others that they perceive to be easy prey to bully. They seek to what little power they feel over someone with even less power.I wonder if there is a pattern if the abuse is strictly verbal, a caregiver that yells and says hurtful things vs. physical abusers that lay hands on their victims.According to science early brain development is hindered by chronic Cortisol overproduction.
