It's never a total waste. I felt the same way about my own degree for the first couple of years I was out of school, and then I finally got hired at my current entry-level position as a contractor. It's still not entirely where I want to be, but it's something that wouldn't have been possible had I not earned a college degree. Opportunities pop up when you least expect them, but sometimes they really do take their sweet time. The best thing to do is to keep working at it, try not to get discouraged, and keep putting your best out there. It's all right to have a couple of missteps along the way, because in the end everything is just valuable experience that could help you get into something more rewarding down the line. The only way you can ever fail is if you give up trying. Things usually happen for a reason, and life tends to have this odd way of making things work out.
Keep your head held high. I've seen your talent firsthand, and I'm sure it'll take you where you want to be someday. :)
Damn Car...I agree with the above poster. Things suck, but that doesn't mean that they will keep on sucking. I'm out of touch with you, so I'm not even sure where you are working at the moment, but if it seriously makes you that unhappy perhaps you should peace out of there. That doesn't mean giving up altogether and working at Mcdonalds, but you can get some dumbass job to pay bills while you work on skills and search for a more rewarding position in your field. I feel like I've said nothing here, but you sound sad so I wanted to say something. Keep on Keeping on. ~ Z
Just so you know, what you're feeling is pretty normal for college students and those who have graduated and find that their major maybe wasn't what they wanted to do afterall. Do you know how many people major in a certain field and end up doing something COMPLETELY different because their career path in their major wasn't as grand as they thought it would be? Plenty. It's normal. I mean both my parents majored in math. My dad is a consultant for benefits and my mom is a computer teacher. o.o And my sister had jobs after she graduated that didn't involve graphic design at all

I feel you! I need to find another job too and it feels like such a burden. And the loan payments certainly don't help my already tight budget. :( I want to see you so we can lament together!
