Pairing: Leoben/Kara
Rating: PG
Length: 288
Prompt: door
Kara Thrace.
She is the most vibrant, deadly, breathtakingly alive human being Leoben has ever known. She hurts, and she needs, and she hurts before she can need. She is fragile, and yet hard as steel, astoundingly dangerous. A perfect, beautiful storm. His Kara.
He will come back, again and again, to prove himself to her. To prove that she cannot scare him, that he will not leave. She may do whatever she feels she must, she may hurt him, push him away; he will always return. He will not desert her. It is woven into the very universe itself, what he has known since he first set eyes on her: they are meant to be together. He lives, simply, for her. To love her, to guide her.
But she cannot live for him, not yet. He understands this, accepts it. He's giving her time, being patient, showing her with his actions and words how much she means to him.
It's not enough.
He knows that, after today.
After the running water and the locked door and the red blossoming on her wrist. It's not enough. She cannot live for him, and if he is not careful, he will lose her.
He gentles her, holds her arm steady as he rinses the blood, cleans the wound. Takes extra care in applying the bandage, in walking her slowly out of the room. Later, he pretends not to notice the knife coming at his back.
As he lays dying, as he chokes a "see you soon" and she stares, arms crossed and face blank, he prays. Desperately, he prays for her. For something she can live for; something that will save her.
The next day, God gifts them a child.
