Burnside Funeral

The city government in Portland, Oregon is that much closer to success in their attempt to kill Burnside Street. For some crazy reason, a bunch of people in Portland think that turning Burnside into a one way street with Couch as its little partner street going the other way will make Burnside into less of a "barrier" and make it safer for ( Read more... )

I've been following this too. Last thing I read was a couple of weeks ago that said it wasn't for sure happening. Is it definite now?? I would be massively irritated. Isn't there enough construction going on right now????

The city council approved funding for an engineering study, so I guess that means it's *probably* going to happen, but not *necessarily.*

Crazy-- I hadn't heard about this at all. That's what I get for living in Ohio for months at a time.

For what it's worth, I remember Magpie (and, ironically, am wearing I shirt I bought from there right now), and I remember Avalon before it moved to its current location (somewhere near 5th, I think), and I bought music from O-Zone records before they closed forever.

I do miss a lot of those old places (especially Ozone). I'm glad you remember them, too, though. I spent way too much time hanging around vintage clothing stores and record stores as a teenager. ;)

I don't want to be too doom n' gloom, though. Who knows what the future holds, really? Still, it feels like a death knell for that street to have so much construction, and for what?
