Food!

I've been noticing that my tastes with random food items, and cuisine, have gradually changed over the years. It's an interesting progression of things...some things I used to love I'm pretty ambivalent about now, and vice versa. This is a really random list.

For whatever random reason, I've decided to post them. (also...it's a slow day)

Foods I ( Read more... )

Things I used to hate, but now like: scallops, sweet potatoes

Things I have never liked: beets, ramen noodles (Clint would chop fresh tomatoes and onions, and then they'd be slightly more tolerable, but the flavor packs are disgusting...)

Things I love and have always loved: crab, shrimp, bacon, pizza

Other things I love that Clint hates: olives, coconut

Sausage is OK, but I much prefer bacon. Or pepperoni if we are talking about a pizza.

I love avocado too.. and artichokes. Clint told my mom he wasn't a fan of "leafy green things" when she tried to serve him one.

I can understand not liking tuna. I didn't like it for awhile, but then it grew on me... I like the albacore tuna much better, though.

I think pepperoni is one of my favorite meat toppings for pizza. :)

I have never liked beets either! They've always tasted a bit slimy to me...

If you ate NOTHING but dark greens for the rest of your life, then yeah, I'm guessing you'd die of malnourishment..same with all meat. But if you change that to "all vegetables vs. all meat", I think you'd likely get way more vitamins from various vegetables....like tomatoes, kale, carrots...

Oh dude! Todd and I totally just made chili last night. It basically involved onion, ground turkey, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and kidney beans. Todd spiced the hell out of it and I had some with a dollop of cottage cheese on top for breakfast this morning - it took the edge off the spice and made it really refreshing.

Also, funny story relating to tuna: my sister and I were once babysat by an old woman of the clean-your-plate school of thought. We were made sick to our stomachs by her version of tuna, which was different from the version Mom usually served. She said we could have sugary wafer cookies if we finished the sandwiches. We tried really hard, to the point of almost throwing up, but eventually we just dug a hole, buried the sandwiches, and claimed to have eaten them.

Oooh, awesome...that chili does sound delicious! I think chili is an especially great entree because it's so high in fiber (if you use vegetables and beans) and so it's generally so filling. I might make some soon; I like cooking it in bulk, freezing 1/3-1/2 of it, and then eating the rest during the workweek so I don't have to cook. :)

HAHA, you guys sounded quite determined to get the sugar cookies. Although it sounds painful to try to keep eating until you almost throw up! Do you still like tuna nowadays or did that experience turn you off to it?

Yeah, I like tuna just fine, though I don't eat it often due to mercury content. I just like it plain with some mayonnaise (in a sandwich, obviously, not in a lump on a plate), instead of packed with onion powder or whatever it was that made it so gross. And I could probably eat it now, but I was a picky eater as a kid. My range of foods has gone from bananas, bread, and baloney to pretty much anything. I even acquired a liking for coleslaw over the Florida trip.

We weren't exactly eating until throwing up. We were nibbling, and becoming nauseated by the taste. I think we finished maybe a third of each respective sandwich. I'd love to know what was in that tuna that made it so horrible.
