Not that I just hire the people and don't do anything myself. Except when I had mono and couldn't lift heavy objects, I always do as much work as they hired help. But MAN it's quicker, it's easier, it's less stressful, and if something breaks, they are the ones liable. I can't tell you what a revelation it is!

i don't really think i would want to hire movers, either. $300 is too much money, too, i think, considering i AM working this second job so i can catch up on bills and save money and all of that. it wouldn't be a thrifty decision at all.

as far as moving, i'd like to think of myself as a pro... i've never hired movers but it sounds like it would be a breeze.
in the meantime, pack a little bit every day after work/ in your spare time. you will be surprised by how much stuff you have, and by how much time packing takes up, but if you do a little bit consistently, it won't overwhelm you.
if you don't end up getting a mover, *definitely* find a truck of some kind. either get a renter (i always had good luck with the dudes at allston budget - just book early because end-of-the-month is always a scramble), or find a friend(s) with a van that you can 'hire' out. i've usually been able to find buddies who'd be down to do some heavy lifting in exchange for some beers or some dinner.
good luck, and have fun! and congrats!
