Yunho ran as fast as he could through the side ally connecting the tattoo parlor to the block of cheap flats. His suspect was getting further away, as he knew these labyrinthine passages far better then poor Yunho.
Even without stopping for breath, Yunho bolted down another ally, following the sound of footsteps on the wet tarmac. But when he heard the turn right, Yunho carried on, following the twist of the ally, until he came out just as the person he was chasing passed him. Jumping on top of him, Yunho brought him down to the ground.
“Ha ha ha, I got you, Bi Rain. What kind of name is that, anyway?” Scoffing, Yunho pulled out his handcuffs.
“You’re under arrest. You have the right to remain silent, anything you say can and will be used against you. You have the right to an attorney. If you cannot afford one, the state wil-”
But his voice was drowned out by the sounds of sirens approaching. Within seconds, several more police officers were surrounding them.
“Excellent work, Jung! Bring him in, and let the ‘deskies’ deal with him.”
With several pats on his shoulders, Yunho roughly dragged Bi Rain up, and led him to the squadron car.
The ride back to the station was long and tedious. Heechul was riding with Yunho, and those two did not get along.
“So, Yunho, did you file those reports like I asked you to?”
“No Heechul, I was kinda busy today, you know. Catching criminals and all. That is my job, I’m not a fucking secretary.”
“For Christ's sake Yunho, why can’t you ever do as you are told?!”
“How about you? You’re my partner, and where were you, huh? It sure would’ve been easier if I wasn’t alone.”
“Aww, was ickle diddy bums afraid of the big bad man?”
“Funny, I was going to ask you the same question.” retorted Yunho, fuming.
Their bickering stopped, however, when Rain stated chuckling in the back of the car.
“Shut the hell up back there.” Commanded Heechul. Rain stopped laughing, but continued to smirk.
‘Good God,’ thought Yunho ‘I don’t know which one I hate more. A thieving, murderess scum bag, or a wussy crybaby.’
Back at the station, Yunho and Heechul were taken to the Chief's office.
“Good work boys, I’m proud of both of you.”
“Both of us?!” exploded Yunho, “I was the one who did all the work here!”
“Now now Yunho, you may have actually caught the suspect, but both of you investigated this man for three months.”
Yunho just scoffed in annoyance. He would love to ride alone. He knew he was ready for it.
“So, are we getting a break?” asked Heechul hopefully.
Their Chief just laughed.
“No, no, Heechul. You do make me laugh. Your next case is another murder. A young woman was found brutally stabbed to death in her kitchen.”
“I thought Changmin and Shiwon were on that.” Yunho frowned.
“Yes, there were. But this is over their heads, we need you two, you’re more experienced.
Anyway, the victims name was Lee hyori, and this beautiful lady was found at exactly...” he flicked through the file in his hands, then continued “3:36 p.m. by her poor neighbour yesterday. Time of death is put at about 2:56 ish, but we can’t be certain.”
“Any suspects?” Heechul’s face was already curious.
“Hmm, just one. A Mr Kim Jaejoong. Her neighbour reports seeing Kim enter the victims at around 2, but isn’t sure when he left.”
“Do we know who was to her?”
“Yes, her friends say they were best friends.”
“Do we have a motive?” Inquired Heechul
“If I knew that, why the fuck would I bother employing you two, huh?” Yunho smirked and Heechul’s face burned red.
“Are there really no other suspects?”
“No one else was seen or heard entering or leaving her house. Now, first, I want you to go to go find out all you can about this Kim boy, oh, and also go to the crime scene, see if you two can find anything the others missed.”
The two were walking along the corridor, when Yunho was suddenly grabbed by his collar, and shoved against the wall.
“You think you’re so smart, huh? Just because you two are ‘more experienced’ then us, doesn’t mean that we should’ve been pulled off the case. It’s as much ours as it is yours. More so, even.”
“Junior Changmin, please let go off my shirt, I just had it dry cleaned. Now, that’s better.” Stepping away, Yunho saw the junior detectives Changmin and Shiwon. Changmin was looking like he might kill Yunho ad Shiwon was holding him back, looking apologetically at Heechul, for some reason.
“I thought you two just booked that Rain guy in, anyway?” asked Shiwon, trying to keep the peace.
“Uh huh. Now we have a new assignment. You’re welcome to, tag along, if you wish.” Changmin growled, and Shiwon glared at him.
“You conceited son of a bitch, Yunho.”
“Now, that’s no way to speak to your senior, is it? And you,” he said, frowning at Heechul “am I not your partner? Why am I getting all the blame, and why don’t you stand up for me?”
“I wouldn’t stand up for you if it meant saving a burning building. You may well be my partner, but I agree with Changmin.” He turned to the other two, and said “If you two are still interested in this case, we would greatly appreciate your help”
Now Yunho was really pissed off. All four of them were riding in a car to see Kim Jaejoong’s old roommate, in case he knew where Kim was.
The boy’s roommate was... different. He had several piercings, and his hair was dyed a weird greenish gray. He wouldn’t tell them his name, but was happy to talk about Kim Jaejoong.
“Yeah, jaejoong’s kinda cold. He’s very, impressed with himself.”
“Doesn’t sound like you liked him much?”
“I used to. But, well, he slept with my girlfriend, and my best friend. Then he started hanging out with guys I didn’t like, and throwing wild parties with booze and shit.”
“And shit?”
“Drugs.”
“Can you show us a picture of Jaejoong, from within the last few weeks?”
“Sure.” The boy stood up, and picked up a photo frame, then passed it to Heechul, who looked at it and passed it to Yunho.
Yunho almost dropped the frame. The boy had platinum blonde hair, and also ear piercings. He had the softest cherry lips Yunho had ever seen, and his porcelain skin was to kill for. Yunho had to stop himself drooling over the beautiful boy.
“Can I ask what this is about?”
“Um, we just need to talk to Jaejoong about something. Do you know where we could find him?”
“I just know he isn’t at his parents. They kicked him out after he dyed his hair and got his nipple pierced.”
“Nipple?” Asked Yunho, trying not to imagine it. This boy was the lead suspect in a murder, Yunho!
“Yep. He might be at his friend, Lee Hyori’s place.” They all froze, and Jaejoong’s old roommate stared curiously
“Did I say something?”
“No, no. Can I please take this picture?”
“Sure.” And he took the photo out of its frame and gave it to Yunho.
Giving their thanks, they eft, not sure where to begin.
“Shall we go to Hyori’s flat, and re-interview her neighbour?” Suggested Heechul. Yunho hated to agree, but it was the best idea.
Knocking hard on the neigbour’s door, Yunho checked her name.
“It’s Uhm Jung Hwa, right?” He whispered to Shiwon
“Yep.” He whispered back.
As the door opened, Yunho flashed his police badge, saying “Mind if we ask you a few more questions about Miss Lee’s death?”
“Oh, of course, please come in.”
Stepping in and removing their shoes, the four moved to the living room.
“Please sit. So, what do you want to know?”
“We just want to make sure of what you told us. Are you certain this was the man you saw entering Hyori’s flat?” Yunho passed the picture of Jaejoong to Jung Hwa.
“Hmmm,” she answered, nodding “certain. He was coming in just as I came home. I remember because his hair caught my eye. Somehow it sited him.” She burst into tears. “I’m sorry, but Hyori was always so kind to everyone, and that boy seemed, he seemed so arrogant. He just came by when he pleased, never mind the time, and I swear he stole my newspaper. And, he made her break up with her boyfriend, too.”
Changmin’s head jerked up.
“What? You didn’t tell us this yesterday.”
“You didn’t ask.” She smile at Yunho. “He was not to pleased, either.”
“Did you notice any characteristics - like a limp, or even a lisp?”
“No. But his accented sounded, kinds posh. I think he was well born.”
“Ok. While you were home, could you hear anything going on in her flat? Any noises?”
“Like I said yesterday, All I can hear is people coming in and out, I cannot hear anything actually going on in her flat. The walls are insulated.”
“Alright, thank you for your time. You don’t know where we might find Kim Jaejoong, do you.”
“I’m afraid I haven’t a clue.”
“Well, we came out of that knowing bugger all more.” moaned Shiwon.
“Not true. We know that there’s an angry ex - boyfriend somewhere. Maybe a lovers quarrel turned nasty. Find out what his was, Changmin.”
“Fine.” Changmin turned back to Uhm Jung Hwa’s flat, while the other three proceeded slowly to the car.
“We need to look at this from all angles. Did the forensics pick up any fnger prints recognized as Jaejoong’s?”
“Yes, they cross referenced them, an-”
“Good. We need to find that boy. And we need to work out his motive. I think it’s time to pay a visit to the Kim family. Even if they have disowned him, they’ll be able to tell us about him.”
Phew, that took a while... please tell me what you think!!! Next chapter will be more interesting, and Junsu, Yoochun and Jaejoong should appear.
I love you guys!
