Still it would be marvelous
to terrify a law clerk with a cut lily,
or kill a nun with a blow on the ear.

You have no idea how hard it is, under the influence of testosterone, that more mayhem does not occur.

hmmmm....

is mayhem by definition terrible?

in this poem - it speaks to me more about the desire to feel, act out, embrace anything (violent, sexual, whatnot) when one feels there spirit is dying. and that, to me, happens regardless of testosterone.

To feel is to live; to want to blow shit up is to be male.

this is of course - my personal situation reflecting back on his writing, of course.

Latin American poets are so romantic. I'm going to print this out and post it at work. Heaven knows, they need it.

i keep starting to send you a really brief comment very simply thanking you for doing these poetry posts, but then I don't, thinking it is stupid or cloying of me to do so. i guess now is the time.

I'm very literature-illiterate. But I've been impressed on both times that you've posted something by Neruda.
