Not sure if this helps reassure you, but the way they're doing it is the way we'd end up doing it here at Scripps. We'd open a job requisition to internal candidates and have the person apply that way. Can't just transfer between positions when the two positions are in different departments.

First, what troyisburning said. This is S.O.P. I've been on the other end of that one, seeing an opening I thought I wanted and learning, when I asked around before applying, that it had been created just for a candidate they already knew they wanted. It's the way things are done.

I'm missing something on the rest, though. Do you mean to say you did not get the other job? If he wants to hire you and they told you that you'd be good for it etc. then I wouldn't worry too much - you'll get the other job, assuming you want it.

Now whether there will be a delay between the time your current job ends and the other begins is another question entirely. You might have a week or two unemployed.

BTW, it is very different, terminating the job versus terminating you. For one thing, you can get unemployment more easily if the job is terminated, versus you being terminated with cause. It looks much better on a resume, "position eliminated" than being fired.

Hoping the best but I think you'll get the other position.
