Ask M&S to stop selling 'The Star'

Jun 20, 2007 11:39

Just got this e-mail from a mate of mine, regarding asking M&S to stop stocking a paper (well, more of a crap-rag than anything else). Although i'm not all that impressed by 'Object', for various little reasons, this seems like a good point, so here are the details. I hope you'll all show your support.

---------- ---------- ----------

Ask M&S ( Read more... )

women, campaigns, marks and spencer, crap rags, lads' mags, disgruntled of tunbridge wells, m&s, consumer power, what's a tag anyway?, arse rags, the star, tits and arse, feminism, let's write letters!, object

Ace! That'd be dead good, if you can at least have a word with her. Even if she doesn't immediately go, "oh yes, of course", at the very least it'll add a bit more momentum to it all...

I'd rather they removed all of the fashion and "women's interest" titles with their unhealthy obsession with diets

Yeah, me too. We could start up another campaign! Not sure we'd have quite so many people keen to join in, but then again, who knows unless we give it a go..?

I just re-read this cos of someone's rather negative (and anonymous) comment... and i've no idea why i said there wouldn't be so many people keen to join in. What utter rubbish - i don't think that way, so i've no idea what was in my head when i said it. Do you fancy starting up some kind of, i dunno, Thing? Maybe it could start with / involve an on-line magazine that offers an alternative? A mate of mine here at work and i were thinking of doing something like this, and of course we shall need many, many contributors...

will getting one chain of shops in this country make any real difference to the vast network of control that started when one deity decided it was better than the older one or ones (or was that the followers)? i don't think so. mark's and spencer's is not an ethical store, it is just as much a high street pimp as any other shop you find hawking it's wares, they just make it look prettier in adverts (they're not just knickers, they're m&s knickers). they pretend it's higher class and lie to you. george davies that designed all the pretty clothes that they sell in m&s is the same bloke responsible for george at asda so try to tell me his company has never used a sweat shop ( ... )

Thanks for your anonymous comment. I don't think the point is whether or not M&S is an ethical company. That bit is probably just flattery to make a complaint letter seem ever so reasonable. I just copied-and-pasted the e-mail i received. The point, for me, is that firstly, if we sit on our arses and don't say anything, nothing happens. If we - a substantial number - complain EVERY time, then it will be noted, by whatever company. Whether they do anything or not is also (currently) not the issue. These things take time to build up, and i for one will not keep quiet about anything that is important.
